Of US Congressmen & Mental Institutions

I rarely post here nowadays but this was too good to pass up.

In debating a ban on gay marriage, which failed in Congress a few days ago, some Congressmen really made some astounding points. So astounding were the quotes that for some reason the words "mental institution" came to mind.

From

quote:

[Although] there was zero chance the amendment could be approved this year ... members of the House were answering to a Higher Authority.

* "It's part of God's plan for the future of mankind," explained Rep. John Carter (R-Tex.).

* Rep. Bob Beauprez (R- Colo.) also found "the very hand of God" at work. "We best not be messing with His plan."

* Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) agreed that "it wasn't our idea, it was God's."

* "I think God has spoken very clearly on this issue," said Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.), a mustachioed gynecologist who served as one of the floor leaders yesterday. When somebody quarreled with this notion, Gingrey replied: "I refer the gentleman to the Holy Scriptures."

"Marriage is not about love," volunteered Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), who noted his 31 years of matrimony. "It's about a love that can bear children."

"The world did not start with Adam and Steve," Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) told reporters.

Gingrey, the floor leader/gynecologist, posited that the debate was "about values and how this great country represents them to the world." After the vote, he elaborated: "This is probably the best message we can give to the Middle East in regards to the trouble we are having over there right now."

So that was it: The marriage debate wasn't about amending the Constitution; it was about quieting Hezbollah.

OMFG :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

Who is running this country???!!! :eyespop:
Fir3start3r
Let's not forgot there are a LOT of religious people out there; tons more than the special interest groups that make all the noise.
I always forget how many there are until debates like this come up...

ROFL, :stongue: :stongue: :stongue: :stongue: :stongue: :stongue:
The astounding aspect is that they are absolutely serious with every word they utter. Then yet again nothing surprises me anymore in this current state of politics in which we live in this country. So much for rights being argued about based on social equality and functional democratic priniciples influenced by sound reasoning.

In addition that wingnut President vetoed the stem cell bill, which even those Republicans that voted for it knew was coming. A mixture of politics and religion is always poisonous it goes without saying. Never mind the potential that may have been possible for stem cell research and its ability to deal with many of the diseases that those reading this may face one day, from Parkinson's, MS, Alzheimers, and a host of other diseases in this toxic world we live in today. Two more years. :whip:

Add that to the most stupidest decisions Bush has ever made list. I can't believe he vetoed the stem cell bill just because of his personal beliefs.
