well, for me it's track selection. both are great entertainers behind the decks, great crowd interaction, but ferry's music just moves me way more than armin's. this time last year i would have said armin, he was my fav. then................... i got introduced to many more generes of EDM and well, he is no longer. |

From January 1, 2006 - 12:10am on July 4, 2006 I would have said Ferry.
But I dunno, Armin was OH MY GOD ING AMAZING at Ruby Skye the nigh of July 3rd/4th. That's not to say Ferry wasn't amazing when he played here in June....because he was. Just Armin was OH MY GOOOOOOOOOODD. The crowd was awesome, too.
When it comes to consistency lately, I'd see Ferry though. Whoever says Armin has been more consistent lately is on crack. He's been quite soft most of this year, hence the numerous not so good revies of various gigs of his throughout the year. :P
Now I wonder if SCG is hinting at something. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....I can put 2 and 2 together and figure things out maybe. Although I imagine she's talking San Diego and LA on the same night since that would be easy if you lived in LA, not SF and LA or SF and SD on the same night. So maybe I can't. If SF were involved, though.... |

Tough call. You guys all know im an Armin fan. But after seeing him absolutely "KILL IT" @ Turnmills in London back in May, his 2 recent performances here were VERY disappointing.
TBH Armin plays CANDY ASS sets here in the states because thats what draws the crowds. Most of the people that show up @ the events are there to hear the popular tracks and see the BIG NAME.
We TA's are much more critical of our favorite DJ's because 1) We see them everytime they come and 2) We have been fans for years back before they were number #1,2 or 3 in the world and 3) Dance music is a huge part of our lives, so we can tell the difference between a DJ thats working hard to keep the crowd going or one just going through the motions!
So my vote goes to Ferry!
Until Armin gives me a reason to change it!
Sorry Kris dont hate me! Haha |

When he played here in SF a few weeks ago, he didn't play Candy Ass at all. That's what I was expecting, but we got none of it thankfully. Actually, he rarely seems to bring anything but his A game to San Francisco. I dunno why, he just plays so well here. I attribute it to the amazing opening DJs we have here which he just feeds off of. Compared to the other cities I have clubbed in, SF has the most talented openers overall, IMO. It really does help with both the vibe and getting the headliner in gear. He brought his A game that night. He was definitely working hard carefully choosing which tracks he was playing (taking his time looking through his CDs) and it showed. Was amazing. Wish I wasn't so tired that night, though. Went in on one hour of sleep. :p |

I think Armin realizes the crowds in SF are more critical then in LA. He knows that if he plays crap then less people will come. Which is the difference between SF and LA. There is a reason they have Love Parade in SF not in LA! Better scene even if it is smaller! People expect more in the city so the DJ's bring their A game!
As for the headliners, we have lots of great talent down here in LA/SD! Kristina Sky played a great opening set @ The White Party and Boris killed it before Armin @ Tentation a few days prior. No knocking the local talent! |
