help with kicks

i use fl6 and im new to producing. the fl supplies you with kicks that arent so great. i tried tweaking them and stuff but i still cant get the kick i want. does anyone know a vsti or tips that i can use to create awesome kicks? thanks alot.

download a good sample.. theres one around called C_kick or something i think its tight... or u can make ur own theres a free program called stomper hyperion. either way u should edit it in wavelab or soundforge and cut the tail so it doesnt mess with ur bassline. eq and compress to taste!!

try google and download a kick sample you like. its gonna take you ages designing a kick that comes close to one already available.

a good sample will provide the fundamentals from which you can play with with compression etc.

Although I dont use fl, the process still works.

Run whatever kick you have through a lowpass filter, a highpass filter, and a phaser but be very carefull with that 3rd one.

If you constantly adjust the cutoff freqs of the filters, the angles and phases to match our mix you will bring a lot of life into it.

Once you do that, you can throw in a separate compressor for the kick and start playing with the attack and release.
