I'm pretty excited to see BT! I've wanted to for a WHILE and never have yet... Should be cool! What are his 'laptop symphony' sets like?

Also, Avalon with some other good bookings coming up...

8/4 - John '00' Fleming
8/25 - Blank & Jones
9/8 - Markus Schulz

WHAT!?!? BLANK AND JONES!!!! i've been dying to see them. Not so sure about BT. I've heard some bad reviews about his sets. Anyone else care to comment?

Avalon has got me hooked for Aug. I'll prob be at John 00 Flemming, def Blank and Jones, and Markus (he threw down a nasty set last time--too bad NO ONE was there)

Yeah I'll be there for all 3 + BT's show... I love his music and have heard both + and - reviews... so we'll see how it is..

I loved Avalon when I was in college and since it has been a couple years could you tell me what the atmosphere is like these days? Between 2002 and now I saw Tiesto's indoor set in May and that's it; would you classify that a typical Avalon crowd with a big name DJ?

Either way I might find my way up :D

I would honestly say the best thing to go to Avalon for is a big-name but not-US-famous type of act.. like a Markus Schulz or a Blank & Jones... Cuz you get their awesome music, space to dance, and hopefully at least it is decently crowded? The best examples of this are when Above & Beyond are here... They are SO good but so few people know of them, so they don't fill up the club (1st time they were here in July 05, it was sparsely crowded, and Jan '06 was a bit more crowded and just the right amount of people.. what I envision B&J or Markus to be)... but it's nto even close to a Ferry or Armin or Tiesto.. where it gets SO full that you cant move, and they jack up prices of tickets and the meatheads come out to play...

For those good djs though that aren't like armin-famous, its a pretty good venue.. prob. not like it was in 2002 but it has to do... its the only venue we got lol

PS that was me who was standing near you all night in Armin.. you didn't step on my feet / were really not rude at all!! I just forgot to write back to your PM earlier :( But you were the good kind of person to stand next to at a show like that :)

Bt Should be interesting especially if he plays some classics. I'm actually more excited about Josh Wink this friday at Rise rather than any of the upcoming avalon nights ;)

When I saw the number of meatheads and randoms at Tiesto I was surprised. There were definitely a good number of people there, but I got the distinct impression that few had ever listed to ISOS 5 or any of its predecessors for that matter. Avalon mistakenly hyped Tiesto as being #1 and people just wanted to go to a big party and say they saw the #1 DJ in the world.

I started going to Avalon in 1999 as a freshman (whoa I feel old) for their International Thursdays and from '99 - '03 the crowd was more international/euro trash and had more energy than the one I saw in May. It was fantastic all around. No doubt it is still a great venue and you are right it's all Boston has to offer; not the club's fault that it cannot draw more people. Avalon was my favorite club for years (until Tunnel in St Petersburg) and I'll probably always kind of like it.

P.S. Glad to hear I wasn't rude, I think the bitchy pushy girls around me would disagree because I refused to let them through but oh well I had a great time :D

Amen to that! I havent seen CL since the rave days - Boo 6 + Final Boo. I thought it would be relatively easy to book him, and that he would draw a good size crowd, but he hasnt been at avalon for a while (or i guess i missed him)

And PVD needs to come back. He has been here for at least a year or two .He always owns the place, even if avalon is redic. packed. It would be nice to see PVD on stage.

he may not be booked for avalon, but nyc is close enough and his two shows next month should be pretty entertaining to say the least.
