Agreed again those big grey ADSORES of garbage cans are ugly. But for me the purpose they serve out weighs the negative. THe unfortunate thing for me is the only way the city adds more of these is to allow corporate entities to essentially put up more billboards. And yes there are lots of em in T.O. but even still I think every corner with a stop light should have a place to toss litter into otherwise ppl are tempted to litter. For example in Cape Town, SA they have round plastic ones on EVERY street pole in most areas. Its cheaper than those bigger metal ones and you get way more coverage.
Way off topic Jay. You get points deducted in debates for that. |
meh.. not looking for points LOL
anyways its not the ads that i dont like. Ads arent a big deal. To me its part of a city scape. The problem is that those cans arent functional. I dont use them because the flaps are hard to open and usually are disgusting to touch. |

This is the exact flaw in your thinking.
Throwing away a butt does not take any resources away from solving other problems. If we were trying to get the city to hire people to pick up butts then you would have a valid point, because that money could be used to support other ares of the city. No money is being spent, and no city workers are being used to help the situation. Leave the point alone. |
my point is that time and focus get wasted on non issues like this when we could be focusing our energies on solving real issues. Spending capital doesnt always mean we are spending money. Capital comes in the form of thought/mentality, time, education, energy, and money. We are wasting too much energy, time and thought on too many non issues which sacrifices dealing with the real ones. |

Have you tested this? If so, what do you recommend? Continuing to litter?

I have. Got a nice garbage can fire out of it, and grounded for about 4 months.
You want a cleaner city? How about putting the damn ashtray tops back on garbage cans. That'll do for a start. |

im just demonstrating why i think cig butt whining is petty. |
Graham isn't calling for the gov't to enact legislation.
He's doing something that's far better, IMHO...asking people to stop being so ing lazy and take some responsibility for their own actions.
I make it a point to find a garbage...for things as small as gum wrappers...so why can't smokers (and other people who litter with abandon) do the same? It's really not asking much and doesn't cost ANYONE a dime. |

worthy cause... but tossing butts into the garbage is bad news... potential for fires - but maybe that's more because people don't properly out the cigarette beforehand...?
I'm sure some of the tax money being raked in on cigarettes could be used to provide proper receptacles around the city! |

Just make sure the cigarette is out FULLY before putting in the garbage!!!! I had a terrible fire in my kitchen garbage last year! We were searching around wher eis the fire and it was coming out of a cupboard!:eyespop:
Also nevr dispose of butts in the toilet - they could get caught in the fan looking thing and it is a BIATCH to repair! SO I heard:nervous:
I will try my best to throw them out, but I think that's one BIG reason why there are street cleaners!? |
