A wee problem with my Serato setup..

Not a problem with serato as such, there's nothing wrong with it (i don't think)..

However, i started getting this problem a while back where basically whenever i lift the tone arm/needle off the time coded vinyl, the track which is loaded onto that specific deck starts going nuts.

In the sense that it starts winding backwards/forwards really erratically. I just have to move the tone arm around quite a bit and it starts doing it. This hasn't really been to much of a problem as lifting the needle to diffrent points on the vinyl haven't caused it to go mental on me yet, but i'm worried the problem will become worse.

Just wondering if this has happened to any of you guys and whether or not you've even read about it?

My spidy senses told me it was probably something to do with the wiring in the tone arm but i'm not sure. :( It happens in both tonearms.

thanks nelly

Just incase - Have you cleaned the contacts between the headshell and the tonearm?

Post this problem on the Serato forum and you'll get it answered right away.

This happened to me once, and it was because on the SETUP, I had it set to LINE IN instead of PHONO.

Go to the forum. I once had a problem and go the answer in a few hours. Serato/Rane customser service and support is second to none. Part of the reason I chose Serato over anything else.

That happened to me once on a mixer that was damaged. The right deck would pickup the control from the left deck and start going nuts until the needle was actually placed into the groove. It was a signal problem as the mixer had been dropped and was damaged so I'd start there. Check your RCAs and your contacts and your whole signal chain really.

Another thing to check is your sensitivity levels, maybe they're set too sensitive for your setup(in that a mild grounding/noise issue is being interpreted as input). If that's not the case, raising them might still be a temporary fix until you get the full issue resolved.

Cheers for the heads up lads,

Was going to post up on Scratch live but then thought you lads might know as well :) Plus it's a different thread for once lol

Anyway it all works perfectly i'm just trying to get some peace of mind that it wont get worse.

Cheers,

Check/Adjust your threshold setting. That 'haywire' behavior is usually the cause of the threshold.
