Hi,
Affiliation is Dave, Chris and Kristian making live electronic music out of montreal for over a couple of years now. We combine the old techno Roland synths with midi controls, digital delays and newest software. Here is the links to some of our turntableless studio productions of the last while. In order of release date with the newest at the top. Enjoy:

u guys def got ur own style...yet not enough variations between each track. I listened to every single track and they all have the same atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere is awsome, but i thought i would find more variation. I liked the st.denis connection the best.
And on some of the tracks, timing seemed off with hi hats/synths. probably was done purposely but it didn't sit well with me either way.
Some very cool tracks with great sfx, yet not enough variation for each track to have its own feel.
good job guys! |

Hey, any feedback is really awesome. About the timing I know for a fact you are right, and sometimes it is not intentionnal. Anyways, we all learned something and work a little different now to avoid these errors.
cheers,

hey guy(S)!
well.. verrry interesting sound. i havent heard anything like it before which is really cool - alot of people out there sound the same and we all knwo that sucks. i must say this type of music isnt what im into, But i did appreciate some of the ideas you guys came up with in the tracks. i agree the st. denis track is one of the better tracks, also i enjoyed some of the melodies in ville-marie and pattern 118a. they had some cool sounds. your fx usage and such is first first - i just personally think you need someone with energetic melodies to paste them on them of your already interesting productions!
one hint - make your bass and kicks match up gain-wise (i.e. your kicks werent loud enough And your bass overdrove or was over-compressed at times) and yeah some out-of-syncage but sounds like yall r taking care of that. I would stick with it cuz yall are definitely starting to develop something cool.
sorry im not being very specific theres just a buncha songs to look at and i dunno which ones r more important to look at... if you have one in particular youd like critiqued just say the word!

Thanks again, we really appreciate people in the community listening and commenting.
That is funny you mention the melodies since we are always having that same debate between ourselves - I personally find a melody is much harder to create than anything else, but luckly we all sort of have our own specialization if you know what I mean. Actually this why we called it Affiliation.
You are right also about the bass issues. It has been the toughest thing to figure out in my opinion. I mean you should hear whats not public from few years ago; it has changed in exactly the way you describe.
One of the party favorites these days around here is Atak Space Ship. Please correct me if I am wrong saying that what we are talking about is perhaps much better on that track. Or maybee there is something wrong with my monitoring too..... |

| let me re-listen to it and ill tell you what I think anyway... i think yall have some great material though, dont get me wrong and i love the affiliation idea and what yall use, etc. its great. with some patience yall will have something solid there - like the wu tang clan of trance/house haha. |

mmmk atak space...
cool opening i like that fx usage - you guys r spot on with fx always it seems. at least yall got something right thta no one else does usually. kick is low i think its lacking punchiness youre looking for - just really experiment with ur eqing on that. i think ur bass is actually basically pretty good if you just raised the kick n punched it up itd be good. great overall sounds - so original. hihats should be 2-3 clicks higher... i think. yeah.. also.. what would really expand your mix i think.. experiment with panning synths. cool effects etc.. come with the panning cuz i feel like when i listen the majority of the track is centered which at least its centered n not all over the place.. but add dome pan depth to your track so it surrounds the listener.
wow - thats sound halfway thru when u cut the percs is great - great automation as well. nice bass fade in and out. that was hot actually. finally if i were you i would take what you have and then apply a energetic trance sequencing to it. it would be a crazy combination that i think would grab the "ehh this is okay i guess" listener.
does that help ya? lemme know if youd like an idea on anything else.
