Meh, I usually watch SBS, which in AUstralia is the channel with all of the foreign stuff, and many documentaries.
It markets itself as an artistic and alternative TV channel.
either way, ti works for me. DOn't like the rest of the on TV here, even cable is usually .
IN most countries the TV channels just appeal to Lowest Common Denominator.
For radio i listen to ABC news radio, which basically tells local news and uses sources such as BBC, CNN, DW news, and many other international networks, to tell news 24 hours.
I don't have a TV in my place, so i usualy just tune into this radio station^. |

| Cranberry, I only have to assume you are naive, as you only allude to terrible reality tv in your commentary and then using that standard to make broad generalizations of the whole of tv programming. |

tonite i went to a friend and we watched a part (it's still on actually) of a tv reality program called i translate the "temptation island" simple concept 4 couples are in some paradise island for 12 days separated from each other with 22 single guys and ladies and they have to test "the strengh of their love" and the faithfulness but what amazed me is how these kind of program manage to show u what they want u to show.....i know most of the programs on Tv do that but i think that's lame like they were showing some part of images totally out of context and situation so finally some random talk between a guy and a girl was becoming suddenly some flirting
the point is it annoys me to see that for the love of money and audience Tv which can provides some interesting stuffs and all finally end up using the harshest business methods neglecting what makes the tv great : which is a good entertainement and informating tool to be some making money machines
okay okay i don't want to sound like a revolutionnary or something but what do u guys think and do u enjoy these kind of programs?i totally despise them and to have seen some part of it made me feel this way even more

Temptation Island was pure garbage. It was a show on Fox TV here in the states some years ago...

I agree with her sweeping generalization from the point of view of one immersed in American culture.
If you look at American TV as an example, even TV channels that once offered some of the best programming on cable have descended into the inane and voyeuristic.
You used to actually be able to turn on the discovery channel and learn something, and now it's filled with shows about jackasses making motorcycles and machines out of junk, and gay dudes telling you which drapes to pick out.
I can remember when CNN used to be a news channel also. |

Yeah, +1. Especially on CNN.
Now there's mostly just BBC and DW news really, but CNN used to be seriously good. |

"used to " yeah because then i saw a map of france and it totally gave me a different opinion about how serious they are but i wont say french medias are perfect far from it

naive maybe yes....but it has been a couple of years now that programs from nowhere began to invade TV and im amazed in a sarcastic way to see how people suddenly are crazy about them so i dunno what happened but like 10 or 15 years ago people would have im pretty sure said it sucks or it's lame but right now the last star academy (i think it's more or less like american idol) is the trendiest convo about who gonna win and blah blah
so my point is just that it seems good quality programs slowly have been remplaced by crappy ones just to get more public watching it and get more money and i think it's sad but im glad some channels provide us still interesting things and im thinking about this french/german channel "arte" |

Ok Cranberry, you're missing the point. Let me put it like this then...
Go to the Music Discussion board. Now listen to the violins play for all those experienced, and hardcore listeners of EDM as they bemoan the likes of Scooter, Tiesto, and other commercial and popular "grabage". Now, someone can come to the EDM seen and thats all they will hear at first as they just skim the surface. DJ Sammy and the likes will be in their ears. They can of course right of EDM as cheese and gayness and the like, and to them they would be more than justified in doing so. However, if they were to actually delve deeper they will find gems. Sure the surface of tv is plagued with crap. So is nearly every form of entertainment; music, books, even theatre. So at the risk of further sounding like one of those insufferable "noobs" who make fun of us EDM heads for listening to crap like DJ Sammy, try watching a quality show (would recommend nearly anything on HBO) and then make your judgements. |

Once again, you see a small pile of garbage and you think the whole world is just the same. First, let me just start off on your assesment of the programming on Discovery. Either I'm just stupid and don't know much, but there is plenty to learn on the channel. They are have programs running on new discoveries about Egypt's tombs, global warming, and a look at the Krakatoa volcano. But, I'm sure you know too much about all of those and surely couldn't use a single drop of extra knowledge.
Now on your former statement, I would agree. The basic channels once held the best programming. This programming, however, is being replaced with crap. Agreed. But, guess what? There is much more out there than basic channels. HBO for example. The channel has boasted more quality programming in the past few years than entire basic channels have in their hayday. Combined. So please, examine all that TV has to offer so as though I don't have to suffer you talking out of your ass, dodging verbal feces left and right. |
