Not sure if these are related but...(from Tiesto's website)

As an artist I have been able to travel across our planet. The number of milestones that I have achieved during my career are many. From the opening of the Olympic Games to the first DJ ever to sell-out a stadium event. But the most important aspect is the contact I have with people from all over the world. The chance to communicate through my music as I believe in the power of music as a universal language.
I have always supported charities privately. Many charities have contacted me to become an ambassador. Sometimes I agreed to do something for them, but I never found one that fitted me perfectly. A charity that gives me the chance to go more in-depth both as a person and an artist. Until I came across Dance4Life. The enthusiasm and commitment they have to fulfill their dream inspires me, and it has become my dream now too.
The way Dance4Life engages with young people around the world to do something about the HIV / AIDS problem is very powerful. They offer young people an attractive way to do something themselves, and reward those who have that with a spectacular event. The combination of serious content and entertainment assures that Dance4Life gets young people on the move.
The closing Dance4Life events are organized simultaneously around the globe and are audio-visually connected. All participating youngsters have taken part in the Dance4Life schools project. Starting in 2004 Dance4Life was already active in three continents; Africa, Asia and Europe. This year Dance4Life will be produced in at least 8 different countries, and I have decided to be their ambassador! This means I will do many things to make Dance4Life a huge success. I will perform at their events, produce their 2006 anthem and be part of their mass-media campaign in different ways to spread their message:'Start Dancing, Stop Aids, Dance4Life!'
The countries that will probably take part this year are: Tanzania, Kenya, Indonesia, Ireland, UK, Russia, Germany, Vietnam, South Africa and the Netherlands. Dance4Life Netherlands is presented by STOP AIDS NOW! and MY Body. All money generated by Dance4Life Netherlands will be spent by these two NGO's on projects aimed at prevention and awareness for young people in the countries most hit by HIV / AIDS.

This is indeed true, he will be here. However, it will only be for a 15 minute promo set (which is exculded from his management contracts).
From what I heard...
There was an agreement for him to play the opening night party but that hit some snags when his Canadian management got involved. He wanted to do it, everything was agreed upon but then some legal problems (number of apearances in Canada, the agreed upon fee, etc.)
If what I heard is true...you have to love his Canadian management team for keeping him from playing for a very worthy cause. |
wow...thats um...rediculous...
I hate all of this legality crap w/ everything these days. I just want to listen to some good music! And all of the proceeds can go to a very worthy cause...
Sometimes I just don't get it... |

i be he will play a little longer than 15 minutes.
so there is a contract saying he can only play in toronto a set number of times a year? if thats true that really sucks, I guess paul van dyk isn't coming for a long time considering he can't come more than zero times a year. :D |

hmmmmmm ...
He's only played once in Toronto so far this year.. would this mean that he only gets one set a year here now? Hopefully that's not not the case and it means that there is another club appearance in the forecast *fingers crossed*
these legal restrictions seem silly.. I wonder what the reasoning behind them is  |

What? Should the guy work for free or something?
If someone was to guarantee me a significant amount of money and in return I could only play a certain number of times in a specific city - I'd do it to.
Business is business. |

Exactly. The only problem I have with what I have learned is that he had agreed to a dollar amount (a significant amount), wanted to do it, his management wanted him to do it, the organizer wanted him to do it, it was just his Canadian management who put a stop to it. They should have just sought an agreement that it wouldn't have counted as one of his appearances in Canada. Tiesto at the Rogers Centre...there might actually be space to dance. |
