My concern is simple, they test the riders after each and every stage of the tour and God knows there are alot of them. yet he only tested positive on one day? Maybe I am wrong, but last time I checked drugs do not leave your system in one day and will show up in tests for quite some time. If that is accurate, the one positive test with all others being negative would not make any sense at all.

Moreover it seems that what they found was that his testosterone levels (a naturally occuring substance within males) were high compared to other levels in his system or something to that effect. Yet not everyone's testosterone levels are the same, and one would expect athletes to naturally have higher levels.

So I will reserve judgment until they conclusively establish that he actually used performance enhancing drugs.

And for those that say that is why he made that brilliant comeback after a bad stage. Let me remind you of the Miami Heat and Dwayne Wade. They were down 2 games to 0 to Dallas and losing by around 20 points in the 3rd quarter of game 3. Then all of a sudden Dwayne Wade and the entire team woke up and won 4 straight games. Does this mean that Pat Riley was shooting up the entire team on the sidelines? Of course not, they just came back, which happens.

i know very little about this so i could be way off the mark but here goes!

i presume when he broke down he knew that he was 'd so he took the testosterone on that day.

Of course the testers would expect testorterone levels to be higher in athletes. However again i guess his his level was alot higher on the positive test compared to he ones he failed. Thats how they would judge it. Also they will know that no matter what athele you are there is only a certain amount of testostrone the body can naturally produce. Again i am guessing landis was over this.

The comparison with the basketball team is completely irrelavent. The b'ball players didnt phyically collaspe. They just didnt bother getting the finger out.

He's guilty as i think.

There was an interesting article about it last week on 'Libération'. I found some kind of translation here :

the winner each day is tested plus a random sample of something like a dozen riders. They certainly dont test everyone every day.

Taking testosterone once off won't have an effect, it needs to be taken over a longer time. He was tested earlier in the tour and passed those, no increases in testosterone. Only that one day he tested positive for increased testosterone.

If he took testosterone on the day he made his comeback, I seriously doubt he would have gained a benefit. There are other ways that testosterone can be raised though. However I understand that his levels were seriously high, a positive test is something like 4x above normal levels (is taken as a proportion of another hormone, epitestosterone I think) and rumour has it his levels were something like 6x (can't remember where I heard that now, newspaper I think) which is ridiculously high.

Its very strange and doesn't really add up. One off testosterone won't have an effect, but then his levels were crazy high.

Sorry, but if i had no hip (or lost a nut for that matter) yet still competed, I'd like to take something, not to better myself from the rest, but to ease any pain that may occur when conditioning themselves.

Dude lost one of his nuts yet he still sitting on that banana wedgey seat, give him credit for enduring anus pressure for however long it the tour goes. And even worse his counterpart landis, how you gonna ride a bike with no hip lol...instead of testing him for enhancing drugs, how about the remove the rest of the competitors hips (or fracture or whatever his case is) and have them all ride on an equal playing level.

The comparison with the basketball team is valid. Dwayne Wade was suffering from all sorts of ailments throughout the playoffs and most notably at the beginning of the finals. This included stomach flu, other flus causing sinus and other respiratory infections that did not allow him to even be able to talk or practice, hip and other injuries, etc, including a stay at the hospital for the flu. Yet he came back strong and went off on a tangent during games 3 - 6, became Jordan Jr. and destroyed Dallas. And he did it all without steroids or question.

Face it, people come back from bad days, it happens. And as somone else in this thread pointed out, you cannot shoot up testosterone on one day and have it take effect immediately. The testing and alleged results do not make sense.

I cannot say Landis is or is not guilty. I just think everyone should reserve judgment. And I hope you guys that have condemned Landis before anything conclusive came out are never accused of anything and never face the same type of pre-judgments he has.

I still dont believe all that testorone appeared in his body overnight by accident/ natural causes.

From what i read, the failure came due to having a testosterone to epitestosterone ratio greater than 4:1. Most normal people have a 1:1 ratio and his was around 8:1 (according to one of the stories i read on goole news.)

They allow up to a 4:1 ratio due to athletes having naturally higher levels of testosterone.

I read this morning that the result of the analysis of the sample were back and they did in fact find synthetic testosterone in his blood in addition to natural. Very interesting indeed. Its not looking good for him
