Progressive vs. tech house

Here comes something that might be considered the dumbest question of the week - but I'll face the risk of humiliation. I just want to find out what the hell the difference is between progressive house and tech house.
I'm browsing Beatport and all sorts of different sites in search of some good tracks, and I'm trying to figure out which one I generally prefer, tech or prog, just to discover that a lot of tech tracks sound like prog and vice versa. One would think that tech has more techno characteristics to it and is closer to that genre, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Or? Is there something that I'm missing, or are they just labeling the tracks wrong?
Help me out here...
Not that any of this really matters - I'm just trying to figure it out... |

Don't trust Beatport's labeling. Each time I browse the Progressive House section, I always come across 140 BPM Trance tunes.
Progressive House would be anything similar to what Digweed was playing on his Bedrock CD. Bass-heavy, driving House. Tech House would be a more up-tempo, techier House that, of course, is more on the Techno side.
If that doesn't make any sense, then blame it on being 5AM and having no sleep. :p |

Chcek out these two CHOOOOOONS. Are they like tech-house? Minimal-Tech-House or something like that. In any case they OWN ME. |

Well, that's true. But isn't he asking for mere suggestions on tech house and progressive to get a picture of how they both sound, so that he can have his own opinion on which one he thinks is the best (Music being subjective)? |
