good luck with that man. fire fighters/emt's are the most prone to alcoholism and drug abuse. my good friend (a female) is a rookie fire fighter/emt and some of the stories she tells me literally leave me in a horrible mood for hours.
she's thinking of going to nursing school instead and quitting because she's been having a major drinking problem and she thinks it's because of how depressing her job is as a fire fighter/emt. she knows that after a while, she'll become numb to it, but she's just too emotionally involved right now and has personal issues and she just thinks it was a bad move to get into that. hopefully u have the mindset and the stomach for it. good luck:) |

at my university the EMT-B's only deal with people who drink too much. it's really just a waste of time, and most of the "technicians" walk around like they have a huge stuck up their ass. EMTing in my hometown is more interesting and it actually pays. you have people that die on you but you get used to it. just don't be like the cool undergraduates at my school and become a dick.
i personally find myself moving away from EMTing because i'm not focusing on medicine in my life, but it's still a good thing to have. i don't know if i'll recertify. happy stomach pumping and always wear gloves.

Yeah I'm a B. And yeah I'll be doing it at college too so I'll be hoping I don't get vomit on my shoes next year :P I've heard horror stories from the rescue squad at my university about last year's calls :P |
