yo guys.

im interested to know what spurs you on to buy a particular track off audiojelly, beatport etc???

1. do you hear a track being played by bigger names and then try and ID it... then search it on these sites/google?

2. do you go onto these sites and listen systematically to all new releases within a certain genre, and buy based on the clip?

3. do you ever make use of the 'users who bought this also bought this' lists?

4. would you have said that you would be dubious of even bothering to listen to tracks released on a label you have never heard of or made by an unknown producer?

obviously a lot of people will act in these ways.. but i would be interested in hearing the main factors you feel drive you to purchase/not purchase a track.

look 4ward to your points guys:)

if i hear something i like, i buy it, if i haven't heard it or don't like it i don't buy it. simple as that really. where i hear the tracks varies very much.
dj_kane
i still use vinyl although i buy tracks which i like regardless of producer or label. if it sounds good ill buy it.

While I have not actually bought off of Beatport or any other site liek it, I wil lprobably do so in the future. Here's my opinions.

I do this quite often. However, I am more interested in finding songs from videos like Sunrise Festival 2005 or Sensatino White Videos than I am from live mixes. Ussually I get lost finding tracks in live mixes, but the edited videos go slower and it is easier to identify songs I like, or don't like.

No, I do not listen to the new realeases...But I do find the samples to be super-important. Sometimes I will go to the sites to listen to the sample of a song I heard about eventhoguh I might not actualyl buy the song.

Nope, I have never found this useful for buying anything.

+1.

Beatport and a few others are where I get ALL my music, not just a particular track.

I listen to Artists I know (and a fan of) and always check out artists I have never heard... Its similar to crate digging. I avoid the "what other users have bought" list, cuz I don't want to play what everyone else is playing. Pretty simple.

If I like a track Ill try and find out what it is and then try and get a copy, but thats not just reserved for mixes by big name DJs. Sadly its been quite a while since ive heard an unknown tune that Ive liked so much that I actually bother really hunting for it.

I do this quite alot, although I do try to do it once a week so theres not too much garbage to sift through in one sitting. Its the only way to find the good stuff.

Not very often, I sometimes click on the links, but to be honest I dont think Ive found many tracks that way. Id prefer to have something which makes recommendations based on previous purchases, a bit like pandora.com

Not really, although if theres alot of new releases to get through then I tend to skip stuff on labels such as trance4m8 and alot of the newer digital labels, purely because ive never found anything worth buying on them. I may be missing out on some gems, but im pretty confident this is not the case.

Think about it about 1000 dance tracks come out each week. If you aren't listening to at least 500 of them you should start getting the shakes. Put that broadband connection to good use.

I'll download a lot of sets and go after the songs that I like.

But other times I'll just browse around, listening to samples. I usually start with the top 10 on Beatport (which I'm not usually a fan of), but then work my way through the system by clicking on different labels or artists. This is the way I find vinyl at the record shop - just browse and listen.

Depending on the genre, I usually actualy like the top 10 on there, but I feel like I'm kinda cheating if that's the first place I hear about one of 'em, so I much prefer just going through the latest releases & listening to one after another after another...if one of the ones I find shows up on the top 10 a week or so after that, I just smile.

I buy it if I can picture myself doing the robot to it.

I know I'll probably get flamed for this but I usually listen to ASOT b/c it plays so many different tracks, so I don't have to take time to dig through stuff. If there's a track(s) that I like I buy it, so I guess that would be option number 1.
