Recording Mixes

Hi all,
I have been wanting to record a demo mix and post it up and give out to friends an am having trouble getting a recording. I have SSL so my laptop is hooked up to the interface and mixer, i dont have a sound card with rca inputs.
I hooked up my sony mini disk player/recorder to the rec out of the mixer and recorded a killer set in 44mhz stereo. But i have no way of getting the recording off the MD now. Stupid sonicstage (MD software) wont allow this. Anyknow how i can get the audio off the MD?

I guess i will have to buy one of those M-audio digital recorders.
any suggestions apprecated...

Can't you buy a 1/8" -> 1/8" Stereo patch cord and use the line out (Or Headphones) of the MD to send the signal to the line in of your computer to record?

Why didn't you just use one of these and record directly into the computer?

There's the answer. Or you could buy a stand-alone CD Burner like the one TDK makes and hook it up to your mixer or amplifier.

If your laptop dont have an Audio In (Line In), then you need an audio interface. You can spend hundreds of dollars for a really expensive one, but for $39 you can get the Griffin iMic. I used to use it all the time and it works perfect. All you need is a PC or Mac with a USB Port.

Hmmm...that with the 1/8" jack plugs into the headphone jack of the computer?? or am i confused. The only 1/8 inputs on my computer are for headphones and microphone. What type of program would be best to record while using SSL, i dont want to run to much of the processor and have SSL screw up.
thanks

what if i plug the 1/8 jack from the mixer to the mic or headphone jack of my computer ...hoow will i be able to record? what program do i neeed?

or i may just opt for the imic option thanks DJwoody...

Even with the iMic you need a Recording app. There's tons of them out there. I dunno if you're on a PC or Mac, but one free app that works great for both is called Audacity.

This is a FREE Program for both Windows and Mac.

This is how I would try to record.

1.- Hook up RCA to 1/8 (y-cable) from Mixer REC OUT to LINE IN in your laptop.

2.- Record using Audacity.

If the quality is wack, then I would buy the iMic, hook it up to a USB port. Then hook up the RCA to 1/8 (Y-Cable) from Mixer REC OUT to iMic LINE IN.

3.- Record using Audacity.

RCA > 1/8"

mixer > computer line in

sounds good. will give that a try djwoody...but does the speaker/mic input on the computer act as the line in?

i wonder what the quality of that imic is like. it's so cheap that i have my doubts. i have 2 computers with integrated soundboards and they both suck bad. i have pci soundcards on both computers too and both of them aren't really good enough for recording, too much background noise.

i'd like to get something i can record my mixes with as little background noise and no other errors etc. but i don't want to pay like 300€ for some m-audio gear when i only really need it for recording.
and i wonder how xp can handle 2 soundcards if i get the imic, as i'd still be using my old card because of the digital out it has.
