Not only cops will be there to keep an eye on the crowd this year, but they are video cams installed at certain intersections (I think)...which will mean more tax money spent...
But really...is that going to guarantee people's safety?
Well at least there will be evidence in an event of a shooting... (which IMO will likely to happen this year...) |

I did a project in university on voyerism, and from yonge and wellington to yonge and bloor there were 240 something cameras in stalled and that was in 1999!!!
So I am sure there are a tonne more now! at least I hope so! |

meh...I don't have anything particularly positive to say.
I know most people are here to party and the weekend brings a chunk of $$$ into the economy...but other events, like Pride, the Molson Indy, sporting events, other festivals, etc. do the same without the Police setting up video surveillance and command posts around the city.
A small thug element manages to tarnish the weekend every single year, it seems. The unreported violence is rarely considered too (like someone I know who was beaten by a few American thugs in the lobby of his own apt, simply because they identified his as a little too openly gay for their liking).
Here's hoping the weekend is drama free and everyone just parties and has a good time! |
