i have a pair of those KRK V8's mk II, and I've never experienced that problem with the "screechy highs" or any thing close. In fact my pair seems rather subdued. like you really have to put some power through then to make em bump....not that they're weak, they're just not loud sloppy speakers.

my freind in Seattle has a pair of those Events and even though they cost less money, they are really loud, and unflattering, something I like in monitors...

not too sure about these KRK's i use em all the time, but there's something I don't like about them, however haven't been able to put my finger on it...=p

If you wait and save up for longer you could get better monitors. That way you know you won't have to replace them in 2 years and eventualy you will be off cheaper.

But anyways. Your ears will get used to a certain model of monitors. IMO the quality isn't all that different per model in a certain price class.

People who have been working with KRK's for years and suddenly hear something on Tannoy's will say KRK's sound better. But that's just 'cos their ears have gotten used to KRK's.

The thing I dont get about the V8s is that they have something ridiculous like 250W amplifiers and a kevlar driver to take the stress of being punched out with that much power behind it. There is no way you will never drive them to capacity for any near field application. Never. Not 2 metres away from your head. I found you can drive them really ing loud - so loud you just have to stand back a couple more metres to take it in but it just seemed so pointless. I dont know whether the ones I heard were mk1s or mk2s so if theres a big difference between the two then fair enough but I hated the V8s I auditioned.

I didnt think the build quality was as good as the Dynaudio BM5a or the ADAM p11a. BM5as are just ridiculous. It feels like theres no air in it at all - like it is a 10kg solid lump of hardwood and metal. You can knock on the cabinet and it doesnt sound hollow. Same with the p11a. I know you are probably thinking 'yea but the sound is whats important' but theres something so satisfying about having sturdy monitors. Less port chuff and cabinet rattle too.

After I heard BM5as I instantly worked out why Everyman's avatar is a Dynaudio driver. They are ing awesome.

This is a little off-topic, but has anyone read/experienced anything with BlueSky Monitors?

I was testing some different monitors out at a local store and all the employees were raving about them. They sounded nice, but were very small. Comparable in price to the rest mentioned in this thread, but I just found it odd that I had never heard of them before.

Here's a small review I found - http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan...les/bluesky.htm

I've heard a lot good things about Blue Sky's speaker systems as well, the sound is said to be better than some of the most expensive monitors. I've done some research in the past about monitors, because I needed new ones. I often ran into the Blue Skys on forums and such, lot of positive feedback.
I dont like what their cheapest system looks like, the monitors look a bit cheap on pictures, of course its the sound that matters, but still.
In the end I didnt buy them, because my local store didnt have them (of course i needed to hear them first because sound quality is subjective) and besides, I didnt like the idea of a separate subwoofer.

GET THE MONITORS YOU LIKE THE BEST!!!!!!!!

all of the brands you listed have unique flavours, as you see, many on this forum have their own opinions for what they like and they don't.
so spend some time and listen to the monitors, and take the ones you think will suit you the best !

also, check dynaudio , they are great for the value.

good luck!

Maybe you should worry about your own grammar. :whip:

Now look.

There is absolutely no need for a comma there my Norse friend, the only grammatical error in that sentence was the absence of a full stop.
Please do not try and own me ok?
