goin to montreal, need some help

I looked over the other posts for tourists and visitors, but i still have few questions
I heard somewhere that the legal age is 17 in montreal and with that age you can buy alchohol, go to clubs, strip clubs.
can you confirm it??
also
i want to visit the city for like a week, so anybody could recomend the best neighborhood to find hotels? i'm looking near a "club district" - if you have it.
I hear stories about Absenth being legal in canada, however there are two kinds of them. One that makes u hallucinate(like the ones in amsterdam), and one that doesnt, which ones are sellin in montreal?
also i wanted to know what is the current situation with drugs and controlled substances?
