Done a quick review for the mix dude, here she is...

Rob Turner Live @ OMGWTFBBQ 2006

As an instant fan of Rob’s from his “Glamorama” offering, I picked up this mix with a combination of delight and expectation reserved normally for the latest GU releases.

The first track “Friday Night Hero” grabs you instantly and immerses the listener in a swirling concoction of deep & stabby chordal funk, followed by the haunting pads and tight squeaky riffs of Santiago & Bushido’s “Big Time Illusion”. As a warm-up set I find this very encompassing & involving, with enough energy to keep the vibe warm without resorting to hammering out peak-time numbers.

To be honest I was blown away with the sheer quality of the track selection and direction the mix took, especially with the advent of Seafoam’ “Forge” and the sweet, tripped out melodies that emerged following such a menacing introduction.

The Tejada numbers are always a winner with me too, his remix of “Scary Biscuits” didn’t disappoint at all. The only low point of the entire mix for me was Gui Boratto “Like You” but that’s simply personal taste, it doesn’t do anything for me!

Major coolio points awarded for the re-introduction of “Friday Night Hero” in its original guise too, that was wicked! I’m going to stop ruining the tracks for people who haven’t heard them yet, so moving on…

The mixing was virgin-tight, from subtle EQ manoeuvres to the perfect blends from one track to another.

And I don’t care how much of a fanboy I sound on this review, Rob is a talented guy and this mix puts that beyond doubt on the back of hearing Glamorama.

Kudos bruv, and I sincerely look forward to the next episode!

Wow... Thank you so much for the kind words man, I genuinely appreciate any feedback, but a review like that is definitely above and beyond anything I'd expect... Thank you again m8! You made my night!

One random note: That Gui Boratto track is the first vinyl record I've dropped in a recorded set in ages... ;)

Well, apparently Beatport either had them labeled wrong, or the titles changed, but tracks 1 and 7 are "Thursday Night Hero" and not "Friday..."

First post edited to reflect whatever happened there... :wtf:

RJT, this mix had really good potential when it first started out, especially when you dropped Mason - Exceeder (DJ Fex Remix). I sampled your mix during a 1 hr drive and OMG my right foot just mashed the gas pedal when the bass line kicked in from that track. The mix started out with delicious variety, seamless transitions and solid tracks. But by the 5th track I started to get lost.. Although some of the tracks in the 2nd half were good, the overall feel was disconnected as I felt like I was having a robot mix, where the choons were dropped not because they go well with one another but because they are good on their own. Your use of the Thursday/Friday Night Hero mixes was IMO a bad choice because the original mix does not have the staying power of the remix. The percussions in the original just doesn't have the long lasting appeal so to hear almost 6 minutes of it really made me want to press the fast forward button. Maybe if you somehow incorporated both versions back to back or in one edit that woulda been better. Some of the sections also dragged on a bit too long with the electro house feel (lacking variety) and there just wasn't enough surprises to keep me entertained from track 5 to end. A solid start but a weak middle drove down the ratings for this but nonetheless I woulda loved to hear this live. I still love "Mono" to death.

I'm seeing double I think??? :eyespop:

lol. Great set man. I'm an instant fan of your's since Glamorama.

Mix is filled with a great combination of light chill and dark trippy house. That's what's great about your style I think. Not only do you pick just plain sick tracks but you have a balance with more friendly light stuff with the driving killer stuff.

Programming in this set is good, but not as good as Glamorama. I don't think I should really compare the two. I think a bit more preporation when into Glam, correct me if I'm wrong. BUT. Still a killer set. Not gonna go on a diatribe about how this set should build more and should take me to another world, lol. I realize this was a sponaneous set for friends and it does the job sickly. Listened a few times now. Once while playing poker with my buds and it was an enjoyable thing. Everyone kept asking what it was. :D

Cheers and thanks for checking out my latest.
