don't buy a brand new car...once you drive it off the lot it loses most of its value. better off buying a used lexus or volvo, you get a ton of miles out of them and you get all the cool aswell. you can get a used lexus or volvo easy with 17k.

used BMW 318, or a Volkswagen Jetta or Golf.

I didnt really like the Tc when I test drove it. I thought it was the car I wanted to buy but after I drove it I wasnt sure anymore, so make sure you test drive it first.

anything not american

I would go for the Scion TC.

don't buy a car, unless its a hybrid car. Between the global warming and gas prices, I'd recommend buying bicycle!

get the new VW Rabbit...good powerplant, 4 doors, tight handling, real fun to drive (if its anything like the GTI)..and fwd handles better in crappy weather than rwd..think its around 15g, so ull have some left over to pimp it out :toothless

*edit - and it doesnt gulp gas (approx 25-29mpg)

I was looking into getting that car, is out yet for sale? havent seen it on the streets.

Used cars id go Honda, Volvo's, Lexus.

New cars Id go Honda Civics, or the TC scion.. I was trapped in the same situation.. I ended getting a Focus.. but just cause it was extremely cheap and an SES, planning on trading it in next year.
