i've recorded a couple of mixes onto my computer.
what i want to know is how do i edit the properties of the file?
you know when you right click on the file, select properites, then click on the "summary" tab. all the info like title, author, comments, etc is grayed out. how can i edit it to add my name, and contact info to the file?
i'm using nero6, and i can burn my contact info onto the cd along w/the file. but the thing is, that when i play the cd, wmplayer doesn't see my info, just file name. i think real player will see my info, i don't remember... i would be a lot happier if i were able to imbed my info directly into the file.
thanks for the help... |

Use Winamp, load it up and then Right click the file in the playlist window and click on VIEW FILE INFO. You can then add all your data into the ID3v2 Tag. |

A small amount of the mp3 info (Artist, title, comments, few other items) can be editted directly from the Windows XP File / Properties box - hit the "Advanced" button. Convenient for quick changes to those things.
For changing some other stuff including editting multiple tracks in a batch, I use a program called MP3TAG, there are a few other similar programs around. |

hhhhmmmmm... this isn't working out w/winamp. :( it just shows a little box that says my mix is a 16bit 2 channel PCM file. but it doesn't allow me to edit anything.
tvmann: actually my windows xp will not allow me to edit the info in the properties box. it's just grayed out... will mp3tag or something similar allow me to edit info of a .WAV file?
also, i'm using nero wave editor to record the mixes on the computer, and it doesn't seem to have anything that would allow me to add/edit any info.
this sucks. |

your trying to add tags to a MP3 file or WAV. file? |

Oh, sorry I didn't see you were using a WAV file. Unfortunately there really isn't any way to edit the properties of a WAV file since it doesn't have the header or tag area that is available with MP3. You can edit the actual waveform data but not the properties.
You could make a high bitrate MP3 from your WAV file and then use that and you would be able to edit that extra stuff.
The newer file formats like OGG let you edit the properties as they also have something like tag areas, and they may be lossless but able to compress the file size. I don't know much about that however, and these new formats aren't used much yet.
