Tips on Depression

my best friend erik has some severe depression. last night he and his girlfriend were over and we were kickin back with some captain, just doin shots, pretty chill friday night, watching jackass out of all things.
erik says hes going out for a smoke. after 10 minutes of being out, me and his girlfriend go out and see him in his car just bawling his eyes out with his head down. both his girlfriend and me ar pounding on his car windows, trying to get his attention.
this goes on for like 40 minutes. after several times of trying to get him out, hs relents and texts messages me and says he wants to die. he tells me he has nothing to live for and he feels bad that he drags his girlfriend into his episodes.
so like a good friend i go out and talk to him about life and what not. the kids 19, and hes VERY insecure. so insecure that he thinks his girlfriend is going to leave him like his previous 2 girlfriend cuz of his drama. it makes me sick to my stomach he's so sad.
my question is...what should i do to help him? my dad lost one of his best friends in college from suicide and has never been able to forgive himself for not being able to be for him more.
drugs are not an option, and please take this seriously
i appreciate any advice you can throw at me on the subject

Anyhow, if we knew the guy, maybe we could tell smth, since we don't...^^what they said. |

Don't listen to your friend. He is in an obvious state of denial. First thing I would do is to tell his parents that he has suicidal tendencies and tell them that you highly recommend a psychologist/psychiatrist. Beyond that is up to the parents unless they suck at parenting then I wouldn't know what to do in that situation. |
