Ruby has for a long, long time decorated their venue on certain weekends. I've seen it as so many things, it's insane. Everything from beaches to jungles to aquariums to picnics to a vegas theme.. They usually flaunt how they put $20,000+ into the setup and all, but haven't seem them do that for awhile. I hate when it's dressed up typically because is always just in my way. Remember when Sander K (and Oakey) played there and there were trees everywhere upstairs and downstairs. I kept dancing into them, lol.
Ruby will sometimes put the DJ booth down on the main floor on these nights, too. Sometimes just as a part of the setup, other times to make the main floor seem a bit more full than usual.
These days, seems like Avalon down in LA is trying to do similar things with the custom DJ booths down in LA. They get a lot of press over it, but sorry Ruby has been doing it for years now!
Here's a pic of G&D playing at the Spundae Spun-o-ween party last halloween. Ruby had the Vegas them that weekend. Was impressive. They had poker chips lined up along the balcony.
