help with my setup's signal chain...

so currently i have my decks running to the mixer and then one of the mixer's outputs to my amp/speakers and the output to my audio interface. this currently works fine but in the future id like to use my computer to do some more creative stuff so im thinking of changing my setup a bit.
what i want is to have the master output1 from my mixer running to the audio interface (currently master output1 is running to my speakers) and then the audio interface's output would run to the amp/speakers. i tried it out and the signal doesnt go through when i play out. i hope im explaining correctly...
basically the interface is fine and i get sounds from my computer and whatnot but the signal that runs from my mixer out to the interface doesnt seem to be running o the amp/speakers (i can record a set and then play it back but the signal isnt "live" for some reason). this maybe stupid but im frustrated so please bear with me...thanks to anyone in advance. |

| can you give a little more info on what you are using? maybe if one of us is familiar w/the 'interface' you're using, we may be able to know how to make it work if it's possible. |

sure, im using the m-audio Audiophile USB (its a 2x2 i beleive)...the signal is running just through my RCA inputs and outputs i have the SPDIF's disabled and no midi connections. |

You need some kind of editor (soundforge will do)
Hook your mixer to the interface via the ins.
Set up soundforge to record via the ins.
Set soundforge to monitor via the outs.
Set your buffer rate to the lowest your computer can handle.
Now if you want to log on to bit.tor.rent and download the waves diamond bundle to get kick ass effects for free don't say you read it here.
I am only suggesting that you go out and pay 2850.00$
After you spent 2850.00$ and buy it chain some plugins and get crazy!;)
Note To avoid clipping from all the crazy you will be doing always put the l1 ultramaximizer at the end
There are 2 problems
1 the sound quality will not be that happening unless you get into the 700-1000$
Rme stuff but then again who cares? .
2 there will be a wee bit of latency. |

| thanks man! ill def try that out...it didnt occur to me to use an editor to patch the sound through, i just assumed the interface would complete the circuit automatically or something...ill try that when i can thanks a lot dude! |

You shouldn't need to use a wave editor to allow you to hear what's going into your audio interface "live" as it were. It'll just be a setting somewhere - in your PCs audio mixer (not sure if you get Windows mixer replaced by an M-Audio one or not when using the Audiophile, but the procedure should be similar even if you do) double click on the speaker icon in your system tray, and you should see a mixer application appear. One fader should be labeled "line in" or similar. If there is, make sure it's unmuted and turned up. If there isn't, go Options > Properties, adjust volume for playback, tick line in, and ok it. The line in fader should now appear, make sure it's unmuted and turned up and you should be able to hear whatever's going into your interface.

thanks a lot man i think this will do the trick! the thing is my audio plugin defaults to the m-audio one and the "line" fader isnt available but i will mess around with this and see whats up thanks for the help! |
