Maybe I'm just pissed off with the quality of the PvD @ Salguero set but...
What is the deal with so many poor sounding live sets being recorded these days?
I know people have different preferences with regard to crowd noise or not, but very few live sets sound good at the moment. Pretty much the only ones that do are the Radio 1 broadcasts.
Ages ago, every year there would be lots of sets that sounded good - i'm not talking about the music itself, but the sound quality - stuff like the Oakenfold Essential Mix Tour 99, Tiesto Club Eau 2001, PvD Rosenmontags 2002, PvD Mayday 2002, Tiesto and Armin @ Gatecrasher NEC 2002, PvD Energy 2003.
These are just a handful of recorded sets from these years, back then the quantity of good sounding recordings was large.
Why is it that when technology should be getting better, the number of quality recordings is diminshing?
Stuff like the recent PvD @ Buenos Aires set, had a really lifeless recording with huge volume shifts which meant that set was not great to listen to even though the tracks were awesome.
Tiesto @ Open Air Nature challenge, one of the few officially recorded sets of his this year and it sounds damn tinny.
PvD @ Love from above - ruined by radio commentary.
Schulz @ Nature One - volume changes and lifeless recording.
And finally - WHY DON'T DJ's DO THE FOLLOWING:
Record a lot of their sets well, in pretty good quality, then leak a few onto the internet which they are happy with. This way, instead of the fans hearing a good set ruined by a recording, they hear a top set that sounds good and is easy to listen to.
Surely their popularity would rise. |
