Review: JOOF (pg. 2)

I think the best part of the night was the prog/psy stuff that JOOF opened with the first hour or so. His set sounded much more trancy then psy. It was still an amazing set, but a bit off then recent sets i have heard.

i think that had to do with him missing a large portion of his newest tracks due to them being stuck back in the UK or something.

Yeah half of his new tracks got stuck back in London so he didn't have a lot of his upfront stuff. The one night that my case wasn't in my car is the one night that I could have been the hero since I had many of the new/unreleased tracks that J00F is hammering at the moment.

that would have been pimp if ur ass ran out to your car and got your cd book to save the day. then he hands you like 5000 bux and is like "can i use these for the rest of my US tour?" haha.

Still speechless about the show. I knew I was going for a ride, but my God, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. John took us to heaven, hell, and multiple dimensions inbetween. Not only is his EQing, programming, and mixing flawless, he's a great engineer. I've never heard anyone (except M.I.K.E.) use that Xone 464 and make it sound so clear. He doesn't build to a few climaxes like an Armin or a Sasha set, he sets you up with a mellow intro track, and hammers away with every track, creating multiple crescendo after another; absolutely no filler tracks ladies and gentlemen-- just relentless beating after beating. John is the epitome of what "trance" music still stands for in my opinion. He does his job and he does it well-- to get the crowd to move their asses. On top of that, he's a pleasant person to be around: funny, charming, easy-going. I have to agree with Sarah and say this was one of the best gigs I've ever been to-- I'm still blown away.

Ruben, thanks for that tracklist buddy. I didn't know playing a few JOOF and psy tracks for you would change the way you saw the genre forever. All for the better :thepirate And it's so crazy how JOOF called you! How awesome!

Cheers,

Ref :toocool:

I think you hit the nail on the head with that Ref. One of the reasons I continue to be blown away with John"00"Fleming year in and year out, is that he is the complete package. We can talk about his technical/mixing skills or his track selection, both of which are sublime, but its really his personality and musical philosophy, that when combined with his afforementioned, catapult him into a pantheon all by himself.
technofriik
J00F is one of my favorite djs but I was a bit disappointed at his track selection on Saturday because at least half of the set sounded too mainstream and happy to me, for the lack of better words. I was hoping to hear the more dark and ruthless J00F that I'm used to. But I danced my butt off regardless and had a blast! I was very happy to hear Robert Miles/Tilt's Children because I looooove the original track. It used to be my ringtone several years ago :D

BTW, BOB'S SET WAS :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: Can't wait for the Psionics 1.0 @ Spundae for a whole night of psy-trance!!!

Raoul, you missed one hell of a night!!! John dropped a BRAND NEW Digital Blonde track that he had just recieved 2 days prior and it was his first time playing it out. IT WAS MASSIVE... That signature Rikki Smith bassline was mindblowing!
