This is the first good answer on this thread.
Why don't the forum users see the pattern? Each user has his/hers preference when it comes to sequencers?
My advice to you plope_42: Try out demos of the sequencers and/or visit a music store where they sell Cubase/Logic and other music software you can't download demos of.
Find the one that suits your needs. No one on this forum knows what sequencer you like.
Since you want to use external instruments, try out Cubase SX3. It has a great interface for adding and controlling external instruments. In my opinion, it's a bit difficult to learn.
FL Studio has the same possibility, but it's not as good as Cubase's solution.
Don't ask me about Logic. I've only seen v. 5 and didn't get much of it then. |

@ Corteoz, not exactly, as he wants to use hardware reason is out of the competition. I don't think you can compare the possibilities with hardware devices in cubase with fruity either so cubase should be on the top op the list. |

I agree. Reason is out of the question.
FL Studio has evolved a lot the last versions, and it has many advanced features for external devices. I'm not sure how familiar you are with FL, but there's a feature called Dashboard that lets you model your external hardware controller layout just as in Cubase, maybe it's not as advanced, but it works.
Also you have some pretty sweet tools for recording instruments and then editing the waveform with FL 6.1 (currently beta). It has a new sampler called Edison that has a lot of new features that Cubase haven't got yet.
My only arguments why he shouldn't get Cubase is that it's really hard to learn, cost much and uses that silly security dongle that reduces the perfomance of the application and installs a bunch of crap on his system. |

| It took me about a week to learn the program, so that's not too long. The dongle has a nice red led in it so it looks cool in the dark. The dongle system is quick and painless btw, it takes about 3 minutes to install the software and transfer the licence to the key. I'm not that familiar with FL studio and I'm sure it's a good program and offers good bang for the buck, it's just a different approach. (pattern based vs linear sequencing). |

oh what heck......
Cubase for sure.......nice solid interface and the mixer/faders/controls etc.. have a more solid feel to them instead of some of those flat tiny boring sliders in some of the other sequencers.
With Cubase you get a true representation of the audio levels through the profesional DB leveling system which Reason and FruityLoops severely lack.
Sure it's not easy learning to use something but I bet you can ride a bike now :haha: |

You're not limited to pattern based sequencing in FL, but it's based around that.
I see so many great things FL has that Cubase lacks, but that's with my production work flow.
The dongle does nothing good now as it's cracked. It's proven that it decreases the performance of the applications using it as the applications communicates with it several hundreds time in one execution. The Syncrosoft (or what it's called) software takes up system resources.
In FL there's an option to activate true dB monitoring. There's even included tools to add dB meters on every mixer track and view them all at the same time if wanted.
I've heard a lot of good music from Cubase, and I've heard equally much bad from it. It's up to the user what he makes out of it. I don't think you should compare FL Studio to Cubase before you tried FL thoroughly, DeZmA.
Damn... I fell like a thread hijacker now. |

i know there has been threads about this but mm i havent really been informed enough. i own both a pc and a mac so im still not convinced on which sequencer to buy. forget about prices and focus on the features that each sequencer has. to those who own any one of these can you please explain in your opinion the experiences you are having with you fellow sequencer. im more into pluggin in my external synths than using vsti. information appriciated thanks. |
they all ahve the same features, so my best suggestion is to use fruity, sence it has everything those programs have, and it its cheaper
edit: and yes, i have tried full versions of every program |

| ableton live 5 for me and 6 as soon as it's out. it's the easiest software for pulling in effects. the tutorial is great on it too. i can see live 6 being the choice of many in the next year or so |

I'm starting too, and I only have FL Studio. I'd like to know why is not considered for pro results, so I’d better start learning to use another software which I can use in the future. I don't think I'll have real synths soon.
Is there any “famous” track produced in FL Studio? |

I don't think FL would do well in a million dollar studio, but for home producers it's more than enough to produce hit songs.
There's a LOT of music produced in FL beeing released. This very forum has a lot of users who has released songs using FL.
My good friend Wandii has recently had a couple of releases. He is a FL user. :) |
