DJ playing pre-mixed music at party

I was at an 18th birthday last friday night at a community hall, was a huge party and they had a DJ there with a good enough setup (few strobes, lasers etc). Anyway to the point when I eventually got on the dance floor and started dancing with friends when the song changed (this was at multiple times) I looked at the DJ and he was just standing there moving his arms around boasting like hes the greatest god damn DJ on earth which led me to think hes a phoney because he wasnt touching the decks at all and was just playing pre-mixed music. I initially thought he might only be doing it for abit and then will mix manually later, my main suspicion was when all the transitions were spot-on and the flow was perfect.

Has anyone else seen this happen at parties? I didn't care too much I got drunk and had an awesome time but I'm just thinking if the parents of the birthday girl paid good money for a DJ i'd be ty if he just stood there playing pre-mixed cd's all night.

Just really dodgy in my opinion.

Yeah....

Djs do that all the time. Next thing you will know is there will be complete auto mixing programs out there that will even randomly download songs via p2p!!

So the "guy who had control of the music" (doesnt qualify for the name DJ) was even taking credit for it?
The worst story Ive got of that is when I was at a formal and the DJ had a 3ch mixer but only 2 cd decks, then I noticed the same progression as the Ministry Of Sound 2006 Annual and the same mixes. Checked it out and the guy was messing around during the mixing periods with the 3rd channel that wasnt plugged in. Then I notice the cd case for the Annual slightly poking out of his cd wallet, that was when I jump kicked him....:whip:

He had a tiny pioneer mixer and two old looking CD decks.

I think he spent all his time looking at the girls lol
