Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty is the "Personality of the Year," according to a British business publication.
Foreign Direct Investment magazine, part of the London Financial Times group, announced Thursday it selected the premier because of his efforts to promote research and innovation in the province.
McGuinty's push to secure new automotive investments and his plan to boost the province's electricity supply impressed magazine editors.
The publication chose McGuinty as this year's regional winner for North America as well as the worldwide winner.
Previous winners include Mexican President Vicente Fox, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the mayor of Seoul, South Korea, Lee Myung-bak.
The latest issue of the magazine, featuring McGuinty, is slated to hit newsstands this week with award ceremonies scheduled for next month, according to a media spokesperson. |

| I've met Dalton several times, I've had meals with him, listened to him speak, I've been at parties with him, even BBQ'ed him a pork chop.... I can honestly say he is a very nice guy, smart guy, but in no way is what one would deem a dynamic personality. |

I suppose that depends on what one deems important by way of leadership. That said, I have not been impressed... very Chretien like... "if I don't do anything I can't upset too many people." Whether you loved or hated PET this country needs more leaders like him, people that are have big visions and are willing to take them on in what they believe is the best interest of the country without pandering to every minor complaint or whim. |

thats what we have in harper IMO
so far hes done a lot in the past 6 months. And hes not letting the direction of the wind influnce his policies either.
im not saying he has visions on the scale of PET but hes a doer and not just a sayer like weve seen in the last few decades. |

Vision is important. It is very much lacking in pretty much all levels of the Canadian political arena.
Mr. McGuinty hasn't inspired me or this province. |

Well, the McGuinty era certainly has been more quiet than the Harris era. |

thats because all mcguinty did was break his promises while harris did exactly what he said hed do.
under mcguinty we are still get services cut and unions are still angry. But on top of that weve also had tax increases and nanny state laws. |
