I didn't want to comment until I had listened through the album a couple of times.
Laurent already know I am a huge huge fan of his older stuff under any of his alias but in the last couple of years I honestly think there haven't been much from L-vee which have caught my interest.

So what do I think of Solarism?
First of all: this is not a dance album. At least nothing I would feel like dancing to. Those people who expected some banging dance can look elsewhere. So no need for you people to complain because you expected easy hitting 4x4 beats. Even those tunes with 4x4 on this album have a way too long break to keep the flow.

Second, for those of you who have been following the Planisphere alias from the first releases in the late 90s you can instantly hear that this newer Planisphere sound is much more polished. The hints of rawness we could hear in tracks such as The Eyes of Truth and Totem is totally gone here. This is a minus. This was what I liked about the earlier Planisphere tunes; it was still the most dreamy alias of L-vee but still with some steady groove and dirtyness.
Solarism instead brushes away all dirtyness and tries to stay as clean and slick as possible.

It's funny to see some people complain about that L-vee is going in a "minimal" way just because the lack of "normal" trance tunes.
Like if this is the first time L-vee tries this formula.
I recommend you to check out tunes such as Green Martian - Computer Weekend and Symphony Of Drums - Till The Last Minute Of My Life. Two gorgeous tunes which are really something special.

Solarism is in my ears an attempt by L-vee to make something he likes, I respect that fully. It's an album which you enjoy for a while but unfortunatly there aren't that many tunes which will make it come back to it a few months later. There aren't really any bad tracks. Some are half decent such as No Sugar Added, some are quite good such as Alizé. What I miss is a thicker bassline which was much more common in earlier Planisphere tunes (Hosanna, Totem etc). tunes. For instance Alizé would have sounded much better with a heavier bassline.

All in all a good album but still lacking the depth which was so common in earlier Planisphere tunes (by early I mean anything before NYE).

Tz - fly was really nice too, although i do prefer till the last minute of my life. that green martian track was one of the first breaks tunes i really liked.

i kind of agree with this. although i do like the old planisphere i like the new sound to it, i just kind of wish there was some of that older sounding stuff as you mentioned from tunes before nye =)

So here's the TranceCritic review.

BTW, I'd just like to give some props to Laurent for being a good sport when his Trilogique album didn't receive the greatest of reviews from us (a different writer, mind). I think he was the only one that took it in stride.:)

Man, I wish they were already for sale...

Keep in mind that we are putting a catalog of TEN THOUSAND tracks online in total, which takes a lot of time, as there are only two guys working on it besides doing the paperwork and running the label.

Further, those tracks were on DAT, which means again a huge loss of time for everyone as everything needs to be converted manually.

Don't even thnk about having someone do it for us, it's waaay too pricey for most labels.

But they're on the way, so remain patient.

Take care
