How to delete unused pool media in cubase

| I know theres a function Remove unused media in the pool window of cubase, but the audio stays in the audio folder (but its no longer in the pool) and takes up space. How could i delete the audio that im not using? |

alright wise guy, tell me how you can tell if the sample you are deleting is used by one of your saved project files? |

richg101, you do know there is a trash can in the pool too right?
Don't know if you misunderstood DeZmA for the trash can in your OS.
If you empty the trash can in the pool, it'll remove the stuff from the pool related to that particular project.
Just to clear things up.

sorry man:( with all the flaming that goes on i misunderstood and thought you were refering to the recycle bin...lol.. thanks for that dezma and farris. i didnt know there was that option on cubase.

When emptying the trash can in the pool, Cubase will give you the option to just remove the reference to a file from a project (the file will still stay on your HD) or physically remove the file from the HD.
The thing is, when importing a file Cubase will ask you if you would like to copy it to your working folder (project folder). If you do this, then the reference will be made to the copied version and when you remove it from the pool (either just the reference from the pool or physically remove it when Cubase asks you) the original will still be intact on its original place.
Also this copied version will be used only in that particular project (unless you start a new project and use the copied version in the new project...lol, I'm getting a bit redundant here...short story, make a copy for every new project). So whenever you import a file, just tick the option to copy it to your working folder. That way you'll be safe whenever you decide to remove something :).
The best thing to do is have a dedicated folder for your files and whenever using a file from that folder, choose the option to copy it to the working folder. That way the original will always be left ontouched.

It's all quite simple actually, you just need to know the logic behind it.
