Nice read.

Hope his new found career brings him the best. The thing that freaked me out in that interview was how more and more his hair is starting to look like mine! :stongue:

Does he know other people are going to be reading this?

But even the dance music pillars in the UK are begging to differ. "Paul Oakenfold Worst Essential Mix ever?" read the byline at the Radio 1 website promoting Oakey's Essential Mix last weekend. A far cry from his 'Goa' EM effort in 1994, it was roundly slated by listeners, especially English ones. So what does Oakenfold say to his British detractors? Are they right that he sold out for the Yankee dollar?

"As a nation we love to moan and we love to complain even when the sun's shining. In Los Angeles, if you work hard and you do well people pat you on the back and say, 'Well done'. In England we slag you off."

He lives in LA because they're easy to please I guess. I'm also guessing he hasn't really listened to his latest Essential Mix and how it really is. There really isn't any excuse for him to perform as badly as he did.

Hell, if you all haven't heard it, listen to it yourself:

There's a thread in the ATLTA section about how it is.

Generally I don't agree with many of the bad mixes that TAs post on here and label as "trainwrecks" as being as awful as portrayed. But this entire set is awful, and 70% of the mixes are literal horse races, trainwrecks, and all around shoddy. I don't understand how he just refuses to believe how horrendous he really is these days.

He lives in LA because it's full of fake people that will blow his ego on command. Anyone and everyone out here that actually still cares about dance music thinks he's a joke. Trust me :p

Oh man I got some funny Oakenfold stories :haha:

edit // Oakenfold's super underground set from Coachella Music Fest 2006

David Guetta - World Is Mine
Oakenfold - Faster Kill Cat
Oakenfold - Southern Sun (G&D Mix)
Underworld - Born Slippy
PPK - Resurrection

I think that was it, he played for less than an hour.

"It's a true passion of mine. I don't know how I'm going to stop doing it, " he laughs. " I'll probably end up playing in a little bar once a week."

What, i dont think they would even book you Paul,

His essential mix, as Demoted said was just shocking, it sounded like a 12 year old kid who just got his new belt drive decks for christmas, and just started to mix and recorded it.

He wasnt the best techicnally, but he'd find the right tune for the moment, and find that rare gem that no one had.

But he should be banned from using decks from now on.
