Wow this has opened my eyes, and I want to read up on it some more.
Now I understand/think that they were keeping drugs illegal all this time in order to create a black market that would drive prices much higher in order to profit. Makes a lot of sense when you think about it that way.

drug prohibition in the US started with banning opium use after a large immigration of chinese in San Fransisco I believe. They also made pigtails on men illegal. People thought that opium was used by chinese men to seduce young white women. hell back then you could buy morphine and even heroin + a syringe and 2 needles in a sears roebuck catalogue.

marijuana was made illegal in america because it threatened the tobacco industry
