First of all, sorry if this topic has been beaten to death.
Ok, here's the deal...I'm a DIEHARD tranceaddict. I'm 18yo and I just started going clubbing and seeing big time DJ's. I Live in the NYC area so for those of u that dont know, Tiesto was here last month (absolutely fawking unbelievable night), PVD is comming on the 29th, Ferry Corsten next month, and Armin Van Buuren in May!! NY has never seen such fine talent! Anyway, I'm thinking about saving up and getting turntables and a mixer so I can mix some trance. First of all, what are some of the basics I should look for when buying equipment. I know the more u spend, the better u get bla bla bla...but I was wondering if it is ok to buy used over EBAY or somethign like that. Also, should i look into any of those "dj kits in a box"? Second, where is the best place for me to buy trance on vinyl? I would like to play the stuff that one would hear from a liveset from Tiesto, PVD, Corsten, etc. Can anyone recommend any good reliable web sources. Lastly, once i DO get my hands on some equipment, what's the best way to learn the basics and style of mixing? THanks alot guys. |

aright dude.. heres the deal
used equip is ok, but only get used technics -- don't bother with used vestax. this will run u but its just a better investment. as for mixer, anything will due at first, but brand name will be a help. don't bother getting the pioneer djm-600 or anything as ull never utalize all that stuff when ur starting. don't bother w/ dj in a box. unless ur totally desperate and just want a place to start. re needles, im sure you know but get em know
i'm just warning you tho. your gonna wind up spending soo much cash on records.. but if you really like it its worth it. as for records -- the kind of stuff tiesto and pvd and them play is pretty umm aged i guess. like allot of the stuff u hear in a tiesto set will be classic tunes he's kept with them, so you'll have to special order them. as for the new releases.. 2 real places to check out. sattelite records at 256 bowery (or around that number). that place has a ton of releases, 10 bucks a record which is pretty good price. the only problem is there SOO much crap that itll take forever to find your stuff. i personally shop at decadance. east 6th between 2nd and 3rd avenue. small selection, only the top pics of the weeks release, thing is they basicly rotate their entire stock every 2 weeks so u can't slack off if ur a hardcore record shopper. the records there are 12, but if you pay cash they don't charge u sales tax so its really only like a dollar extra a record. IMO its worth it cuz its such a chill environment there.
if u want throw me a pm i'll go record shoppin with u some time show u the ropes
