ableton audio/midi question

alright homies...here is another ableton question...

so i'm a FL user, and i've been messin' with ALive for a little bit, and i tried looking through the manual for the answer to my question, but i havn't found it yet, and i don't even really know what i'm looking for.

so the question:

in Fruity Loops, you can load an AUDIO file into a sampler, and then you could then plot out notes on the piano roll.

now in Alive, i am able to load up a midi instrument, and program a midi part, but how do i do this with an audio file? for instance, i have a kick.wav. i want to write out a basic kick pattern in midi, and have it trigger the audio file...but i dunno how. does this make sense?

i'm sure this is a simple thing...i will try to figure it out now, but if someone could help, thanks.

No Left Turn
load up Ableton's sampler plug-in, Simpler.

hey no probl.

This should be very easy.
You'll want to drag an instrument called the Simpler onto a midi track.
Then drag kick.wav onto the Simpler. Create a midi clip by double clicking a box in that midi track while in session view (the mixer view). A piano roll should apear at the bottom and you are ready to go.....

awesome man, thanks...now i gotta figure out how to make it so the pitch doesn't change when i load up a sample...

welcome to ableton. Pitch will do whatever if you are not careful about it. Use the transpose located right on simpler.

lol, thanks again. although the original kick still differs slightly from the one i loaded into simpler. the decay seems a bit off and some other odd things...but should be ok i guess.:) :)

EDIT: NVM i figured it out lol...i just had to adjust the length of the midi notes..duuuuuh.
