Lately it seems that we've been 'blessed' to say the least with major parties happening practically evrey weekend (or something worthwild attending evrey two weeks).

A couple years ago, parties having internation talent were few and far between yet we (well I), still attended those parties with the same enthousiam (even more so back then) than I do today

Looking at the people that the warehouse (.. refusing to call it Kool), is pulling in, it almost seems like they are enough International DJ's on (constant) tour throughout the world that will allow venues like the warehouse to charge 25-30$/night for a internation touring DJ evrey single weekend. It is definately a possibility with the number of 'household' names growing evrey day.

So this is what I predict will happen, dancing to international DJ's will be the rule, not the norm, and it will *allow/force* venues to charge more expensive prices.

All, this being said, boycott DJ Culture and support your locals =)... because basically, its not a fair world, its 100% about who you know and what kind of music you can get your hands on (which boils down to your contacts at record labels)

(but hey, once it while its all good)

Interesting theory, but I have to disagree... if a good dj comes to town, I'll go see him. Whether or not international djs come every week is irrelevant, because I'm only going to see who I like. Plus, there are plenty of clubs and plenty of local djs... not every club is going to have an international dj behind the decks.

That theory makes zero sense. So what, just because we aren't paying 30$ to see local talent they must be better. We must appreciate them? For what ? The big dj's were once local talent, they paid there dues, and there are reasons for why they are "big dj's", cuz they are amazing. Thank you.

I was kidna hoping people would **take it lightly** (remember this is a silly inet msg board)

but anyways.... lets think of it this this way, lets say they are ~50 major venues in the world, they are easily enough world touring DJs to play at least once at evrey venue, every weekend !.. the reason we have a summer slum usually is because they will gather 20-30 DJs at a time and throw them in so called festivals.. leaving the boring club scene with their locals.. (which hey, aint a bad thing.. because sometimes I'm just up for a night out of dancing, and I dont feel like spending 25$, to see some superstar)

and no, they aren't amazing.. for the most part, they have an AMAZING vinyl collection and AMAZING means to collect new vinyl.. the mixing and crowd reading (and crowd interaction), come secondary)..

but you have a point, 'most' big djs have paid their dues.. but I cant get myself to believe that some, eg. Pete Tong, is only there because he hosted a radio show, or Guy Ornadel, because he has loads of contacts because he books Sasha.. =)

I am taking it lightly, it just doesn't make any sense. I don't really understand what your point is. There are some big named dj's who are awful, I agree (I was thinking more along the lines of Mark Spoon). But I'd still rather pay 25$ to get into Guv and see PVD than pay 10 and see Joe DJ who has 3 year old vinyl and can't mix worth the . I also see flaws in my point, as in PVD would be more like 50$ and 3 year old vinyl isn't always a bad thing.

BUT ANYWAYS, I think the fact that there are 50+ great dj's out there is a great thing. Could you imagine a world with only 3 big dj's. Would you be complaining then? YES.

And btw Pete Tong is a great dj. He has a very unique track selection, the man has 20 years of experience and he can mix smoothly, no doubt about that. I think people expect him to be Sascha or something. He is a legend and thats why promoters book him.

I do aggre that thier is too mony international dj's comming just looking for a quick buck. but most r talented and they have their own special gift (just like Tong). The problem is with some of the international dj's r overated. their is always an exception to the rule. "To each his own" Yes, their is some great locals who should get more support & 3 year old vinyl done right is a good thing. I just would like to see another place other that the guv holding these presentations.

Good luck out bidding those bad boys. I don't mind the venue at all, great sound system (I doubt anyone could disagree with me there) but the crowd can get a little too much at times.

Me don't care........i rather see a big name over a local any day of the week. BIG NAME DEEJAYS!!!!!!!!!!!.....tho locals are'nt bad but i have my preferences.

Personally I don't like this trend towards massive $50 uber-clubs. It's nice to see "superstar" DJs once in a while, but it should be the exception rather than the rule. The big name attracts a huge crowd, and larger crowds have a higher risk of problems.

The Guv has been aggressively booking lots of big-name acts, possibly hoping to turn itself into the only real place in town to party. I think of it as the Microsoft of the T.O. party scene, trying to crush all the smaller guys with lots of money. And when you get down to it, the high cover charge is there to pay some guy to play other people's music.

I agree with sylphin, some of this city's locals are as talented as many international superstars, they just don't have the McMarketing or the exposure. Support your local scene!

Too bad (for the most part) that Joe DJ is a myth.. you have to agree, at least in Toronto, that Joe DJ is NOT DJ'ing in your local clubs, these guys own record stores, own labels, run radio shows, etc.. etc.. to DJ at any great toronto venue, these guys are definatly at the top of their game.. they just travel les s =)

Sure it'll come a point, where you will NOT want to hear Joe DJ spin evrey weekend, which is why, once in a while the odd special guest will be great.. But why is it that evrey weekend we are seeing special guests and we are being charged, 20-25$ =)

I'm with you halo20, I don't really understand what you're saying Syphlin. Are you saying that just because a dj is international doesn't mean we should be charged so much money for a ticket? I care about ticket prices but if it's for someone like PVD or Tiesto, I'd pay whatever it takes. Anywayz, I agree with halo's point.
