it's normal for them to play the stuff they produce or sign cuz they like it and most of the people that attend let's say an avb gig expects to hear a live asot....simple
same thing with tiesto..he played lethal industry and traffic for the last years and stupid people who don't kno about EDM but liked the tracks keept him at the no 1 spot. |

Yes that is true, but DJ's should focus as well on playing the best music available even though it might be against their own label at times.
It's probably what one of the guys already said, it's become just a business and DJ's no longer care about playing the best, but perhaps the best from their labels, totally forgetting about the rest of the music out there and therefore decreasing the quality of their sets.
What about those DJ's who rarely play their own tracks but they should? anyone like that out there? |

Um... well ya...itn't it natural to play your own tracks at your own show!????
You would never see Metallica play a "smells like teen spirit" would ya???
People come to shows to see the the dj play.. and play his own tracks
I agree somewhat with the opinions already stated... but shouldn't the producer play his own stuff??

Same thing could be said about Richie Hawtin at times, yet you labelled him a whore in the first page.
Trentemoller dosen't always do a live PA by the way. You even have Damian Lazarus as a non whore, and you're right, i don't think he even has a released production out, but im sure he whores artists in his label so.. |
Richie does not label himself as a live PA, at least by any flyer I've ever seen.
As for Lazarus, I agree with the guy above. He does play stuff off of his own label, but not nearly the percentage of other people I mentioned. |

I wouldn't go to see Metallica if they were just playing a CD, mp3, whatever of a song that they created years ago, which is pretty much what you're saying. When they're playing live instruments, it's different than hitting play on the CD player. It's the same reason that the live PA people are being regarded differently than the DJs in this thread. |
