Thanks a lot for your kind comments. It means a lot to me to hear people who know what they're talking about say that they like my stuff. I wasn't quite sure if you meant that you liked the buildup at 1:50 or if you thought i should get rid of it though. Please clarify that for me. I'm about to go to class, but when i get back i'll check out your track. Thanks again for listening.

| ok this track is good in the sense of technical/structure but i dont get the melody...the progression confuses me |

| what part of the progression do you not get? Its a standard 1-2-4-5-1 (or i-ii°-iv-v-i) The only nontraditional part is the minor v chord. I used that because otherwise the raised seventh sounds out of place. |

i dunno, im not an expert in terms of music theory but the melody line doesnt click with me, dont get me wrong, its a fantastic production but the melody just doesnt quite twist my nibblets u get me? |

I like the pads.
The vocals are nice.
The delay on the crash is a bit too much.
The break comes really early.
Hmm this should be much more goaish.
It's really repeatetive and I'm starting to get bored.
Oh here comes the lead. Nice melody.
The whole production sounds kinda amutarish and dated.
There are too many snare rolls and not many fxes.
The prec line is really boring.
Good melodies though.
6/10

I wasn't trying to argue with or critisize(sp?)you, don't get me wrong. I was just trying to understand what you meant so that i could make it better, and i think i understand what you mean. |

I agree that the delay on the crash could be toned down a little. As far as the break coming in early, that was to keep from becoming too repetative like you said about the other section. This track was not intended to be goaish, it is more of a dance anthem track than goa. The focus is in a different place. As far as production, i don't understand what you mean by "dated". As for being repetative, the idea was to be repetative so that while dancing you kind of get sucked into the melody and zone out from thinking about how many times you've heard it. The fills were used to provide short breaks from the repetativeness. The repetition is also there to hold the track together. Add too much change and structure dissapears. I used snare rolls for fills, because they help drive the track along without interrupting the flow like other fills would. The perc line is not intended to be complex. The rhythmic complexity in this track comes from listening to how all the parts interplay with one another. For example, how the kick and initial rhythm synth play off one another, or how bass and leads interlock. I dont like tracks where the focus is on soley percs and a few pads and simplistic lead. There isn't enough depth and complexity to those in my opinion. I'm glad you like the melodies.
Don't get me wrong, i am not trying to say that your critiques are wrong. I'm just trying to explain my aims for the construction of the track and why things were the way they were. |
