need to get a new video card in the mid price bracket (around $120-$160 area) looking at canadacomputers. these seem to be the 'best' but i'm not good with all those specs if someone could fill me in a bit. been looking at these two.

Sapphire ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB $159.

or

XFX GeForce 6800XT $150

open to any other suggestions too...thanks
Abercrombie
Don't forget to explain what you'll be using it for. Diff't strokes for diff't folks.

First off ... dont like canadacomputers .. ncix.com is much much better IMHO ... im a geforce / nvidia fan myself so id take that .. but to each their own .. both will do a great job :)

not a personal fan of XFX either .. BFG (lifetime warrenty) ... or MSi (Microstar computers) are a few of my personal favourites

the ATi card is very nice tho :)

i'm not a huge computer game person. but the odd time i do play one, its nice to have it run smooth. other then games though, i can't think of anything else i do that would be graphically demanding.

why you against computerscanada? i've personally never had a problem with their products. their staff sucks, but who cares, they have the cheapest prices of anyone (including ncix when i just looked)

all my hardware is from there... never had a problem..

I wouldn't touch Sapphire with a 100 foot pool... bought one and it never met my expectations, plus the fan died.

Just got a MSI Geforce 7600GS 256 Ram because my system is still agp... the card is very fast.

p.s. anyone wants a Sapphire ATI 9600 pro AGP:p

NCIX's advantage over CC comes from the fact that you don't have to pay PST for NCIX orders as they are based in BC. Despite the zillions of things I've purchased over the internet, I'm still a skeptic when it comes to shipping.. so I'd have to go with CC on this one.

As for choosing hardware... tomshardware.com recently came up with an updated beginner's guide to video cards... detailing what you should be looking at. They also have a massive database of video card frame rates on certain settings, games and programs.

future shop is running a promo - 199 for a BFG Overclocked 7600 GT card right now - which is MORE than enough for what you'll need. Very nice card.

Unless you're going high end, steer clear of ATI this round. Their high end is great, but mid-range and low-range aren't as solid.

Stay away from ATI dood. The hardware is good but the drivers and support sucks!!

Trust me!!!

$150 for the 6600 is that pcix or agp

Plus I,D Take Elendil's advice and go with the BFG 7600OC for the extra bucks.

The 6600/6800 series is getting a little dated.

You cannot go wrong with BFG and a 6xxx or 7xxx Geforce. The 6 is pretty dated though.
