TA Int.'l Gathering Summer's End OMGHi2UwtfBBQ?! Pre-LóL BLOCK PARTY v3.5! is an annual tradition which began circa 2003 to mark the end of summer celebrated by friends, family, and the larger TA community as a whole. The last 2 years have been staged at mother hen tatgirl's (Nathalie's) nest located just east of downtown Toronto around the Riverdale/Greektown community (between Pape & Carlaw). Due to the overwhelming popularity and demand for this event, this year's party has been expanded to take place over the entire block at tatgirl's infamous Langley Ave. home. Details of which can be found in the official event thread.
The great thing about this event is that it is entirely organized by volunteers within the TA community that have generously donated their time, money, and energy in making all this possible. Through this, it is being asked that each attendee kindly bring a $5-$10 donation to aid in covering the cost of permits, port-o-pottie rentals, and the insurance policy required to hold the party on the block.
Each year, TA's new, old, and internationally from around the world converge on this historic occasion for a day of fun and amusement. This year will be no different as ALL TAs are invited, whether you're new, old, a lurker, or a postwhore, everyone is welcome! So come out and meet your fellow TAs, mix, mingle, and make some friends! As always, name tags will be provided!

Directions:
First time coming and don't know your way around? Not to worry! The Block Party will be easily accessible by both car and public transit. Below are the directions depending on which option you prefer.
By TTC (public transit):
The #72/72A Pape bus travels down that yellow line from the station, cuts across Riverdale & down Carlaw.
College Street streetcar due east makes it way to Gerrard St. Get off at Carlaw (by the No Frills) and walk north. Turn on 1st street on right, Langley Ave.
King or Queen streetcars heading east: get off at the Carlaw stop, go to SE corner, and take the 72/72A bus north. Get off right by No Frills gas station, walk up to the 1st street, turn right on Langley.
By car:
Cars should park on Carlaw, Riverdale, or in the No Frills parking lot. There is also a school parking lot accessible from Riverdale St. that has a walkway to Langley Ave.

What to bring:
BYOB (avoid glass please!), grill-able food i.e. BBQ meat, etc., snacks, other home made recipies, a cooler with ice for your booze, an open mind, and good vibes!
Want to get involved?
Don't just be at the Block Party, but be a part of it! Volunteers will be needed to help out with a number of different positions which include:
Setup Team
About 5 strong people will be needed to help with the overall setup and takedown of chairs, tables, stage equipment, and A/V equipment. This role may also involve the lifting of heavier items such as the BBQ grill, coolers, and any other large ad hoc items. The team will be required to arrive approximately 2 hours before the start of the party and stay after the party until everything has been fully dismantled.

Clean-Up Crew
This team is responsible for ensuring that excess garbage is collected and placed into appropriate garbage bags and bins on a regular basis throughout the day. Everyone is also encouraged to help out with the clean-up effort after the party as all help is appreciated.

BBQ Marshalls and Chefs
About 4-5 people will be needed to oversee and marshall the grilling of food and other condiments around the large BBQ grill. Marshalls will be asked to work the grill on rotation throughout the day. Other duties may also include ensuring that the food in the area is kept clean and tidy.

Booze Control & Bartenders
A specific area will be assigned for the storage of cold drinks being brought to the party. About 4-5 people will be needed to help ensure that all beverages are kept cool and free of plunder. Efforts will also be made to label drinks being brought to the party to indicate their owners.

Street Marshalls aka. Anti-Konflict Team
3-4 people will be required to fill the role of Street Marshall. What this position entails is essentially keeping the peace at all times. They will likely have to wear bright orange vests while keeping guard of the gates in case emergency vehicles need to pass. The position will rotate throughout the day. Marshalls are expected to keep an eye on things in general, i.e. well being of people, low stock of items, alert to any riff-raff or bad behavior. Basically you'll be a TA NARC.
