Anyone else use this program to record mixes? I never run my mixer into the red yet every time I listen to my recorded version of the mix it sounds pretty bad. Any way to fix this in Audacity? Also, I am using Stereo Mode. |

I need the recording volume around 0.1 so it doesn't max out. I dunno if theres a gain other than that which you can turn down (other than the gain on the popup recrding window, but that doesn't seem to do anythign for me). I guess you've already done that though. Unfortunately thats really the only thing I know of that would affect the in volume. |

Trance Nutter - sounds like you're using the mic input. Use the line input instead, or if your computer doesn't have one (laptop?) buy a new soundcard for it that does - you can get a cheapo USB one for about 30 which will be miles better than your laptop's internal one.
Doombot - same thing again possibly. Even if you don't push the mic input into the red it'll still sound pretty rubbish. If you are using the line input, can you define sounding "bad" so we can pinpoint the problem a little more? |

nah I'm using line (actually USB dedicated recording card) but the in volume still affects the line input. |

ok sounds to me like uve not set the levels on audacity right.
open up audacity and where the VU meters are and click on the vu meter on the far right, the one with the microphone underneath. u will now be monitoring what ever u have selected to be recorded. if u are using a basic onboard internal soundcard u shuld c sumthin even tho there is nothin playin because the pc creates sum noise, if u using a decent sound card then u shuld see nothin on the VU even tho uve selected to monitor it or it shuld be very low anyway.
next thing to do is to play a tune from ur setup so that its peaking at 0db on ur mixer or whatever u like it to be at, then on audacity you need to adjust the input level this is the slider with the microphone symbol next to it. adjust this so the VU meter is at 0db or better still maybe a little less to give uself room for flutuation while ur mixing. i tend to find with internal soundacard s u always tend to have it very low on the slider normally the first indent. if it still seems too loud at this point i suggest u turn down the mixer until its peaking at the right point on audacity.
once everything is set make sure u dont alter things on audacity or your mixer. i knew sumone that wuld set there levels then wuld turn up the master the further he got into his mix becuase he was diggin the music. unfortunately for him he was also turnin up the record level too, took him a while to figure out wot was goin wrong.
anyway i hope ive helped and not just waffled on! :happy2: |

i'd also check the quality settings on preferences if i were you. i had some trouble with those before. check that it is 44100Hz and 16-bit. and check that the file format is also WAV (Microsoft 16 bit PCM). |

There is NO WAY you can fix it. Next time around make sure the recording isn't saturating ( by following other peoples suggestions ). |
