In sx3, I have "automation follows events" checked, but when i automate a vst instrument, and move the midi event that is sent to that instrument, the automations on the instrument still do not follow.
How do you get the instrument automations to follow along when you move the midi events that control them? |

How to automate in Cubase SX3 in 3 steps:
Click the 'W' on the vst you want to automate.
Press play and tweak knobs.
Press stop, turn off W, turn on R.
Done. Play and listen. Right click and choose 'View all used automation tracks' to see your automation. |

you clearly didn't read my question.
I'm asking how you can make it so that instrument automation will move with the midi event that is sent to that instrument. |

move the automation events along with the midi events.

| Sorry lol I read it but it was confusing. Hold shift and select all the automation you want to bring with you. Should copy with the midi clip. |

I believe that "automation follows events" is in reference to the processing order, not the editing tools (although I could be wrong).
Easiest way to move them both at once is to use the marquee (range) tool instead of the arrow. You can select multiple lanes and it won't "miss" any of them like the arrow does. |

| Automation follows events usually works for me, although that usually applies to the midi channel automation. Are you trying to get the audio channel automation to follow the midi events? |

no, automation follows events works, but only by moving the automation that is in that track. So it will move all the automation you have when you click the + on a midi/audio track.
The problem is, that when you have a midi track controlling a vst, the vst instrument automation goes in its own little track, or channel or whatever. All you're doing is sending the midi info to that instrument.
The best solution is, as other have said, to drag the vst instrument below the midi track, and open its automation, and then click drag all the parts you want to move. |
