Getting All A's But flunking life?

The problem with school is the current method of teaching, which goes like this,
Memorize, Regurgitate, and Fahgettaboutit
People who have good short term memory tend to get good grades in high school and college and are greatly rewarded for their ability to regurgitate information. They then continue on to get jobs with lots of responsibilities, like being your boss or a teacher. They end up being completely incompetent at the job and you wonder how such a moron could be your boss/teacher.
Memorization does not equal comprehension. Comprehension takes more time and effort to teach somebody then telling them to open a book and memorize a formula. There will always be those that will never be able to comprehend something and schools know this. So trying to teach a class full of students to comprehend a subject would only lead to a large portion of children failing the class.
Those that tend to comprehend things really well, first learn to comprehend that school is a huge waste of time and have a hard time comprehending how the way they are being taught is really going to help them at all in the real world. They also tend to see through the flaws at their workplace including the incompetence of their boss/manager.
People trying to comprehend a class taught in a memorization style tend to not do as well on the tests. They are actually trying to understand the subject instead of just memorize it. The problem is the books also are designed for the sole purpose of memorization. So people who are really intelligent but have less then spectacular memorization skills tend to not do as well in school as they know they should be and are typically told by (incompetent) teachers/parents that they need to apply themselves or work harder.
Just my observation.

Actually I didn't. I was too scared that one of the links might blow up Bangor, Maine. Funny thing was that there wasn't any fine print in this thread, just confusion. |
