Fridays Off the 405
Date: Friday, September 1, 2006, 6:00–9:00 p.m.
Location: Getty Center, Museum Courtyard
Admission: Free
Enjoy music and evening views of the city, tour the galleries, and revel in the end of the workweek in a casual and spontaneous atmosphere at our monthly Fridays Off the 405 series, a music happening curated by culture magazine Flavorpill.
Fridays Off the 405 features free live music and a cash bar from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The galleries will be open until 9:00 p.m. as well so you can catch the photographs in Eliot Porter: In the Realm of Nature and the unforgettable paintings in Rubens and Brueghel: A Working Friendship.
September 1: Jamie Lidell
Groove to the jaw-dropping vocal talent of Jamie Lidell, a boundary-smashing techno master who's shaking up the electonic music scene with a gleefully twisted version of R&B, doo-wop, and disco. Sure, he's got a voice Sly Stone (his hero) might envy, but how many soul greats live-loop their own vocals and create beats by stomping shopping carts full of junk? Don't miss Lidell's "one-man funk tornado"—retro soul with an irreverent attitude, served up in a whirlwind of cinematic, cabaret-inspired showmanship.
Kicking off the evening is Daedalus, whose sonic mazes blend honeyed melodies, avant-electronics, and 30's, 40's, and 70's grooves.
