Very sad news. Crocodile Hunter Steve brought many hours of entertainment/infotainment to my life and it is unfortunate that new generations of fans will only know him through re-runs.
His wife and children always were a big part of his life (and shows) and ultimately the man died doing what he loved best - teaching the world about nature in wild and daring ways. Steve put a unique twist on his wilderness/conservation passion and pioneered a captivating way of spreading his message.
RIP. |

I am just hearing about this today as I am watching TV. It is really sad to hear and he will be missed by many. Even if you didn't like him directly, you couldn't help but to keep the channel on to see what would happen next. Such a shame.. RIP :( |

"I have no fear of losing my life," Irwin once claimed. "If I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it." And you knew he was for real. Irwin was a fair dinkum Crocodile Dundee — without the fake tan or the facelift. He epitomised the legend of the Aussie bushman
en top aussie!
i'm gonna get mangled tonight

| I'm in Sydney right now and they've been showing Steve Irwin tributes every night for the past couple of nights now. He was, to quote the locals, a legend. |

It is really sad. It's all over the news here in Sydney and the rest of Australia. Most people I talk to are just in shock.
Such a tragic and ironic death, considering stingrays are pretty much harmless and he's been in 'worse' danger before. I've heard on the news here that the barb went right through his chest and he basically died immediately. He has two young kids and it's so sad to see such an advocate for wildlife and nature preservation go so soon.
I was hoping to go see his show at the Australia Zoo too :( |

We actually visited his zoo in Queensland last month. He wasn't there though, the staff said that he rarely does the live shows nowadays because of his schedule but he does visit the zoo once in a while. |

| Didn't most of the Aussie population dislike him because he perpetuated the stereotype of the Australian bushman? |

Funny enough, when I started working here my co-worker asked me if I had thought everybody looked like Steve Irwin before coming to Australia and I said yeah, how come I haven't heard anybody say crikey yet?
To which his reply was "That bloody idiot, he's so annoying, the only thing left for him to do is pull out a vegimite sandwhich from his back pocket on tv."
But seeing how people have reacted these past few days, he seems to be destined to be a national hero. |
