The Orange Vibe/Giant combo team sure keeps the hits coming, that's for sure. Dedicated regulars should probably look into renting a permanent living space/party pad down in Newport Beach soon so as to stay to close to the weekly action. It'd save on gas dollars. At any rate: you will be trekking down to the infallible Tentation Ultra Lounge yet again this Thursday, September 7th, as this week's guest of honor is none other than the “undisputed queen of the turntables,” DJ Rap. Often called the number one female DJ in the world, DJ Rap has been cruising through the international house circuit for years now, and her craft keeps improving. Oh, and she's also something of a practicing supermodel. Come catch the fever. Bonus opening set by Boris M.D.
A little biography perhaps? DJ Rap aka Charissa Saverio was born in Singapore, but grew up with a nomadic life, relocating from Indonesia to Malto to Africa, etc, wherever her family went. Throughout it all, her two hugest loves were horse-riding and playing the piano. Eventually she settled in Southampton, England, while in her early teens, and it was there she got truly turned on to pop music. This was, obviously, an important development. From there she went out traveling again, backpacking through Greece and Turkey, before finally returning to London, where she joined a legal firm and fell into a somewhat normal nine-to-five existence. This, of course, would not last.
According to her press sheet, Saverio then “ditched her job, kicked out her difficult boyfriend, and discovered raves.” Whoa. Thus was DJ Rap born. Learning Curve was her debut album, and when it dropped on the unsuspecting public six years ago, she exploded to public prominence. The record sold a more-than-respectable couple hundred thousand units, but during a TV spot promoting the album, Calvin Klein approached her and personally offered her an advertising campaign (she's quite the looker, FYI). This led to several other ad campaigns, for one of which she was allowed to produce the music. People, predictably, loved it, and things kept rolling. She has since been sponsored by Playstation and Nintendo DS, and Armani Exchange even helped fund one of her tours. Come get close to one of dance music's brightest stars. |
