Ok, so I've been studying Ableton for a few weeks now and I think its great! Im not using it for DJ'ing however, more so I want to begin using it to launch clips as well as create and loop live drum beats and audio feed ie. guitar. I would need to be able to preview pre made clips and loops via headphones and to hear this overall mix. To put it simply, I would like to apply my somewhat large musical background to perform play and improv live electronic music (techno and minimal\abstract music)

Sooo my question is...How do i set everything up to do this?! I have a Dell Inspiron (flaming against Dell blah blah) and was recommended a Presonus Firebox which has kick ass reviews. I also have a Korg PadKontrol and an Evolution U-33e or whatever that are both great controllers and work via USB. Sooo what would be the exact routing with wires and such I would need for all of this any WHY EXACTLEY DID I NEED TO BUY A 300 DOLLAR EXTERNAL SOUNDCARD?!

Before I get flamed for saying that, I bought because I was told I needed it and it was said to be the best one at the guitar center in town and would be gone soon enough. I also knew I could pre listen and plug more than one source in...im just wondering HOW!

Please help! thanks guys

i'm sure you might want to take this to the production sub-forum. I'm sure you'll get better answers there.

There are tons of tips and tutorials for exactly this at www.ableton.com and www.abletonlivedj.com

not to be a downer... but if you have a dell laptop, you probably won't be able to do what you want to do. I know because I'm facing the same issues you are.
