| I think I gotta agree with Cribby on this one. Haven't heard CD2 yet but CD1 is very bland and uninspiring. There's a few good tracks here and there, but as whole I think it's a pretty weak CD. Mixing is very straight-forward and even a little shady at times too. |

“WE always like to do things differently, move forward,” says Sharam from Deep Dish. “Right now we’re going to challenge ourselves by doing two projects on our own.” Which is why, inspired by the success of the individual Afterhours mixes which accompanied their Toronto set, Deep Dish are releasing two solo Global Underground albums.
Sharam’s CD is first, with a stunning mix based on the raucous set he rocked Dubai’s sumptuous Trilogy Club with. He chose Dubai – the ‘Arab Miami’ - because “it’s a new cosmopolitan hot spot” and is near enough for their legion of Iranian fans to fly over. Global Underground Dubai is out now. Sharam’s Deep Dish partner Dubfire follows in February 2007 with a set based on a storming set that had Taipei’s Luxy Club on fire.
And in a few weeks the Global Underground series rolls into Paris’s Mix Club (Oct 14th), where Nick Warren will be playing the set that will form the basis of his record sixth GU set. Also out in 2007.

Hell yes. Especially Moscow.
Toronto has a few bad vocals on disc 1, but the overall "vibe" of the CD is top notch. Disc 2 on the other hand was weak compared to disc 1. It definately had it's moments, but overall I found the second disc of Toronto to be a random collection of tunes with no flow. This new one reminds me of that. Don't get me wrong, there's a few really good tracks on there, but the programming left me :wtf: ...That, and apart from those really good tracks, the rest were very bland. |

can't wait for Nick Warren's next one! Why does October 2007 have to be a full year away?
I LOVE his Shanghai GU!
As for this GU 29, I finally got to actually give disk one a full listen this morning while in Manhatten and I must say it made me walk with a purpose at 7am on a Sunday! I agree in some regards that the tracks weren't 'stompers' but I really enjoyed the flow and vibe of the mix.
I'm looking forward to getting through disk 2 tonight before I crash.
Edit: I've listened to Disk 2 a few times now and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I didn't like the flow of the mix at all, I thought it was all over the place. I love track 13 though. And even though 13 and 14 don't go together at all, I still though track 14 was a nice closing track. other than that... Disk 2 gets a big 'Meh' from me. |
