I guess this answer will difer among producers ,
but just wondering what are the main elemsts in trance they are the most important to produce the genre.
some examples
synth
filters
effects
fx
strings
counterpoint
arrangement
the bass
percussion
imo i feel the main elements
are fx ,chord progression, chords, and the right synth and the right patch and of course percussion to create the drive for builds and breakdowns and fills.
like i siad this answer will differ from everyone just curious to see everyones response. |

I say it varies from song to song, so I can't vote. |

1. BPM somewhere from 125 - 145, typically using a 4/4 time signature and a bassy, dry, synthetic kick drum on each beat.
2. The bassline and kick are usually the loudest elements of a track.
3. The repetitiveness of percussion and melody is quite high, greater than that found in classical music or most rock / pop, with the gradual adding of elements rather than everything being there right from the start.
4. Dynamic and spectral effects (envelopes, filters, distortion, LFOs, etc.) are used fairly liberally to sustain the interest of the listener, and often these, rather than melodic or thematic progression (which are almost always very simple), will be the natural "focus" of a track.
5. Melodic sounds are often euphonic, at least more so than in techno or hard trance. |

For me it has always been 'the melodies'... In this case, it's a hard choice between the riff or the chord progression as for me it's practically the same :) |

Just take a break and ideas will flow.
When we least expect it, we create the best and biggest melody. |
