Some Info on Mr. Sparkes.. :)

DJ PAUL SPARKES

Paul Sparkes has become a household name in the international dance scene of late.

Paul started at grass roots level and began a night called "Vinyl Frontier" in London 1995. For 4 years the night grew and grew, and Paul was able to bring in guest DJs from abroad, gaining him a solid reputation in dance circles. He then became a resident at a night called RE:Mission in London. This allowed him to play with some of the bigger DJs, whose influence was inspirational to him.

Paul found that there was more to the scene than simply DJing at night and therefore became involved in journalism, writing for Clublife magazine monthly and Klubfever.com weekly. Record and club reviews, and an editorial on the music industry in 1998, led to the development of Paul's journalistic reputation, and he was commissioned to write a paper on the phenomena of dance by Hull University which was recieved with great acclaim.

Paul held down a residency on Jam FM for four years. It gave him the chance to break new records and acts to an avid weekly audience, becoming the voice of the dance for the station in the North of England.

Paul decided to put his ears to good use in terms of A&R, accepting the position of A&R scout for Ministry of Sound for the Benelux region after picking out hits in the late 90s. He is responsible for finding DJ Sammy's No. 1 hit "Heaven" in 2001, a big hit for MOS offshoot Data, and also Ralphie B's "Massive", from Black Hole, NL.

In 2000, Paul decided to move to Holland, to further his DJing and promote his own nights. He now co-runs a regular 365mag night at Club Sol and Panama, bringing in the cream of real deep house to the city, such as X-press 2, Lucien Foort, Parks and Wilson and Austin Leeds.

Paul uses his journalistic skills on a daily basis for highly-acclaimed music portal www.365mag.com, formally Xpander.nl. He interviews DJs such as Sander Kleinenburg, Pete Tong, and James Zabiela for the site. He also contributes to the club-guide for Amsterdam Weekly and writes a monthly editorial for Exotic Underground in Seattle.

On the international front Paul's DJing is going from strength to strength. Last year, he visited the US, Israel, Sweden, Germany, UK and Dubai. America in particular is a point of popularity for Paul, touring the country four times in 2004, playing from New York to DC, Seattle to Philadelpia and beyond. He also supplies a monthly mix to C89.5 in Seattle and to DFR in the Czech Republic.

Paul has embarked on a studio collaboration with the multi-talented Dutchman Musikjunki, and a forth-coming single due for release shortly. With tours planned in Amercia in Spring and Israel at the end of April, watch Paul go even further in 2005.
