What do i need to know about ordering from overseas? (UK resident)

Lets say I want to save a few hundred quid, and I order this:

What are the risks? Am I likely to be charged tax by customs? What are the other pitfalls?
Anyone with exprience? I'd like to hear your input.

I'd be careful with shipping methods, as you want to choose one that might include insurance or something just as good (such as a refund policy from the seller if it never makes it to you and can be proven with tracking info). Definitely make sure they ship it with tracking, especially something that expensive.
For shipping and customs reasons I would only drop that kind of money on something if it was shipped domestically. On a side note, I actually would never spend that much money on a single item on eBay unless the payment method I used had some kind of insurance on it as well (which I think PayPal does now, up to a certain amount).
In this case, the seller has a great reputation (although I would dig for those very few negative feedbacks and read them), they're shipping through DHL with tracking, and they accept PayPal and bank transfer. I've no experience doing bank transfers for eBay goods, but in this case I'd choose that over PayPal. In any case, it looks like you're in pretty good hands with this person. |

There's the issue with the seller being unreliable a fraud or the item coming damaged but more importantly there's the issue with taxes.
You will get taxed up the arse by customs. There's a very high probability of it. |

Hit and miss whether you get ed for import duty.
I had a vestax mixer worth $$$$$$ arrive and no charge, but got screwed for £27 fees on a $99 pair of headphones.
Best way is to get your ass to the US and pick one up with the current $/£ exchange rate being so good and bring it back in your carry on luggage |
